2025/26 David Moyes

Because cup upsets never happen

I thought Dyche did a great job in his first season & half given the circumstances. Think he was done for that last season, not surprisingly as the pressures must have been immense, imagine being known as the manager who took Everton down.

Thought Moyes did great & a lot better than I thought in the rest of last season.

Not sure why one has to be great & the other crap, they both suited our circumstances at that time.

Cements lucky plucky Everton mentality…which Moyes was best at…but Brentford, Bournemouth can do the same now
Yes, they've spent about as much on their squads as we have.

Fact is, if we want to put distance between us and them we are going to have to spend better or more.

Another dumb comment. Well done.

Still can't beat this dumb comment.

It's not demonstrably untrue at all. The great Carlo Ancelloti had us in 10th. Mourinho and Conte both flopped at Spurs with far greater resources. Moyes took us to fourth. Probably the worst squad to ever finish fourth in this league having finished 17th the year before. I don't there is an equivalent achievement in premier league history. Leicester won the league but they actually two world class players and a top quality striker. We had Marcus Bent up front.

I mean he’s categorical stated he has final say, so some of the rationale for transfers lies with him surely?
So even allowing for getting some wrong, shear neglect to strengthen in some obvious positions warrants some scrutiny?

Yes, but that is also still subject to the overall decision-process, availability and budget. Having the "final say" can still be very limited if it is others who prioritise the initial selection process, or if there is insufficient funding..... or if you're a club that has been languishing near the bottom, with no European football to offer etc. Bottom line is, he turned around last season and has had one summer transfer window, and we're currently 8th with a small unballanced squad that is valued about 14th (valued about 19th last season), after we had the second lowest net spend in the previous 5 yrs..... I'd say that we're very much still in the recovery/transition period.
