2025/26 David Moyes

No, I can understand being disappointed if we don't achieve top half. I think we should finish in the top half. I'm simply pointing out that it is an over-achievement if he does finish top half as much as you all want to claim Dyche was overachieving against the squad valuation by getting us to 16th.

It's the demands for Europe that I think are unreasonable with what we've spent being in the bottom half of spending and after 5 years of no investment. Should we aim for it? Absolutely, and the manager has been clear about it. Should we sack him if he doesn't get it? Not for me.

Would I consider 11th an abomination? No, but I wouldn't mind if he was sacked if that's where we finish.

Let's not pretend people didn't think we needed to spend on transfers under Dyche. We all just knew we weren't allowed to and were skint.

Dyche wasn't limiting ambitions on his own
but he's just proven what he's capable of if given money and a good squad and it's not been very good.

Thankyou for acknowledging reality.

When he was here: 5 years of the lowest net spend in the league. The only club with a positive net spend in that period. Two point deductions. Sell to profit transfer policy in every window. Multiple failed takeover bids. Cash position at the club in jeopardy. Absentee board, directors not at the match. Final year of his contract along with half the squad.

Before he arrived: 19th with 15 points from 20 games. Gordon sold. Fans chasing player’s cars down the street. Horrendous fixture list. DCL injured immediately, front line of Gray Maupay Simms Townsend. 6 points behind Leeds, 2 points behind Leicester of Tielemans Vardy Barnes Maddison KDH Fofana. Club on the precipice of liquidation if it goes down and the stadium with it.

The macro environment does matter.

Honestly I think people have completely lost sight of how bad it was. I’m beyond glad now that Moyes doesn’t have to deal with any of those problems. Our biggest issue now is whether OBrien is a good enough first choice right back, and which one of Rohl Armstrong Iroegbunam or Alcaraz can take cover Gueye’s position long term, or maybe whether we want to buy Jack Grealish permanently, or do we give the game time to two of the most promising wing talents in England.

The very fact we can even debate a new manager is because TFG could afford to make a change! Moshiri couldn’t have fired Dyche even if he wanted to, we didn’t have a single penny to rub together, which made most of the debate at the time pointless.

Thank god the club isn’t where it was back then, dark times I don’t want to go back to.

I dont have a subscription to search it, but it was mentioned a couple of times as part of rebuild debate.

Funnily enough I found this article on The Athletic talking about squad valuations.... Their source? Transfermarkt.

Can we post links to the athletic now its on the NY times? I don't want to get you in trouble.

Here's a source I think we can agree is reliable. The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) https://football-observatory.com/WeeklyPost513

You have to filter to "ENG". We are ranked 14th according to this. Unfortunately it is Euros but they're Swiss so that's what you get.

Very little separating us and Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford and Villa. Very surprised Villas isnt a lot higher?

I'd say right now there's very little from a results perspective separating us from Bournemouth, Brighton, and Brentford.

Villa are definitely over-performing their spend right now. They had one big window and then they've had to play careful with FFP, hence the Iroegbunam deal, which has impacted their spend.
