2025/26 David Moyes

I thought things were getting very stale after 2009 personally myself. We also bottled an FA cup semi final under Moyes against the poorest rs team since the 1950's.

Maybe they were stale, but we couldn't quite break through that ceiling, and that is on Moyes and is one of his major flaws. This time around though, he is seemingly in it for the short term, so hopefully he gets us to the same 'stale' stage and we can successfully get somebody who can kick on, especially now there might be a bit more money around.

The Semi final, I would not put fully on Moyes. If I remember it rightly, we were in control until Distin had the brain fart. If that does not happen we win that game, in my opinion. It is maybe partly on him for not settling the team down again but it can't all be put on him.

Nobody says he is perfect, I am definitely on the side of more positives than negatives.

The disappointment knowing Keane and McNeil are going to be rewarded with starts.
Then knowing there will be another summer rebuild when better player's leave and the club retains those two to bolster numbers.

I never buy that we bottled tbh at semi final in 2012. People say it was a terrible Liverpool team. It had Agger Gerrard Suarez down the spine and had Carrol and Kuyt on the bench. It was worse than some teams but in reality they had bottled the entire game up to the point Distin made that mistake.

We’d suffered from Pienaar bein cup tied and Drenthe on disciplinary so started the game with Gueye and Osman on the wings, we had Stracqualursi and McFadden on the bench.

People really need to start looking at the actual quality of our squad at times. We didn’t bottle 2012 and we didn’t bottle 2009, we just couldn’t hold on against two much better teams with much better bench options, especially in 2009.

I actually consider the FA cup under Martinez our biggest trophy chance. Lukaku had multiple chances plus a missed pen. The final was against Palace. That for me is a bigger opportunity. Even if we’d beat Liverpool in 2012 the final was against the new CL winners Chelsea who went on to batter Liverpool.

We spent absolutely nothing. Of course things went stale because we expected him to perform miracles on no budget. Moyes was arguably the least financially backed manager we had in the last 35 years.
