2025/26 David Moyes

This forum is basically 4chan for Evertonians at this point.

We'd have killed for a boring midtable season this time last year. Injuries and AFCON have basically rendered an already threadbare squad unrecognisable for weeks at a time. People are completely unhinged now. Every match is treated like a referendum on the club’s entire existence. One bad half and suddenly the manager’s a fraud, half the squad need binning, and we’re “going backwards” again. There’s no memory, no patience, no sense of trajectory - just pure reaction.

The £120m figure gets thrown around like we went full Chelsea, but it’s such a lazy talking point. Context matters. A chunk of that was spent on replacing players who had to be replaced, or finally investing after years of neglect. Excluding Grealish, we weren’t adding luxury depth or game-changers - we were plugging holes in a squad that was already bare bones. Net spend wise, and in terms of squad quality, we’re still miles behind clubs we’re supposedly meant to be competing with.

It’s all become so performative. Nobody wants to say “this is rough, but understandable” because outrage gets more traction than realism. We’ve gone from begging for dull, forgettable stability to demanding instant progress with half a squad fit. That’s how you know the fanbase has lost its head; the expectations have completely detached from the actual situation on the ground.

So the argument from the pro Moyes camp is that he's doing a magnificent job but anytime he loses it's due to adverse conditions he's facing and we just be content with any result since they take place in the premier as our squad is so mediocre, which he played a role in summer signings gotcha
Also mate, the bolded above isn't passive, he's managed, at least in part, to get himeself/us into this situation.

Kenwright and his boy Davey have done a proper number on evertonians, many of us seem happy with the current performances and position we find ourselves in, which Is clear an improvement on the last few seasons, but we need to look at that in the context of the league this season as a whole.

While it’s true I am pleased to seemingly (hopefully) be away from the relegation dogfight, which is the minimum we should be aiming for at the start of every season, I cannot just excuse the managers tactical decisions and handling of some of the players recruited when he was backed in the summer - players he selected and signed.

He’s too negative, and safety first, resulting in some of the worst home performances and defeats in any season.

With the league being so poor, the opportunity was there for us to grasp the nettle and aim for Europe, but we’ve blown that now - the afcon and injuries haven’t helped, but it was self inflicted by the manager, every club was affected by afcon and injuries

We might as well pack it in if we can’t be bothered hoping and striving for better than just existing.

He has done what was needed, you have to thank him for that, but I don’t think he will ever win anything with us or consistently move the club forward to where we all want to be.

The idea everton fans haven't been patient is clearly not true

No one should be happy with where we are at. Accepting this kind of a season as something to be happy with, is definitely not the mentality that will move the club forward.

Everyone involved in the club should be desperate to get better, and not content with just staying up. If anything expectations from.the supporters should be far higher than they currently are.

Also I will say I want Moyes to do well if we win today I'll be elated , I just feel as a supporter I have the right to be critical of his flaws as well

I'll be delighted if we win. It's so miserable right now and we need a chink of light...and Villa are a club I always love to see us beat.

But Moyes will be setting up for a narrow loss today. A draw would be a very creditable result if we get it.

On the bold, I think it's more about your last paragraph - as in, whether you're happy with another 1-5 years of Moyes.

I get the pro arguments, he's a comfort blanket but - I think we need to move on from worrying about relegation and have some hope. I hope to see Everton win a trophy before I die. Personally, Moyes doesn't give me that hope - he'll never win a domestic trophy in this country and that's something I'd like to see.

We literally have got better. This time last year we were 16th on 17pts and we’re now 12th on 29pts. This time last season we were 21pts off 4th and 20 off a Europa league spot this season we’re 7pts off top four and 5 off a europa league spot. We’ve ground out a point per game during Afcon on top of injuries and suspensions. What you and others are saying is completely false. Do people expect us to go from bottom of the table to title challengers in one window?

I'm happy with another 18 months I think. At that point there would need to be a pretty body of evidence that he's the right man to move us on and win something for me to want him to stay after that.

The club needed rebuilding and I'm happy for us to build some solid foundations right now, he's demonstrated an ability to do this throughout his career.

That's fine, his contract length is about right for that to be achieved. I'd then want us to be in a position to push on a bit and that's the bit where I think there's a debate to be had about who should be doing that.

We've not won a trophy in over 30 years, and brought back the manager responsible for over a 1/3 of that time to rebuild. [Edit] Or closer to 40% of the time I think?)

How many clubs would do that?
