2025/26 David Moyes

If you leave this echo chamber and talk to fans of other clubs you'd get a complete reality check. Moyes massively overachieved with us last time he was with us and he performing as expected or better this time round too. It's pretty much universally acknowledged except on forums like this which are full of cranks. Why do we expect to outperform our spend on wages and player fees. It's just completely deluded. It's like an ugly bloke with no money holding out for a super model.
My comments could be perceived as being rabid anti Moyes , although I was very content with his performance last season when he was brought in to resurrect our form after Dyche. My issues with Moyes this season (which I was optimistic about) stem from traits that have always been present throughout his time as a manager but seem to be even more amplified this season such as his rigidity which could pertain to preoccupation with playing his preferred players in certain positions despite those individuals not delivering or changing winning lineups created due to situations emerging from injury only to disregard a peripheral player's notable experience and foist the favorite back in.

The strikers have failed to deliver which Moyes is culpable for to a certain degree as the tactics don't seem to suit their traits , whipping in errant crosses doesn't help a limited striker like Beto who plays off the shoulder. Also Moyes the way deploy subs are abysmal, way too delayed and most lack a strategic purpose.

Moyes hasn't been terrible this season but this notion that he should be immune from criticism and suggesting that he couldn't be replaced Is just some sacrilegious fantasy is absurd. I just feel if he rectified the issues mentioned above we could have accrued at least 4-6 more points which would have been substantial in realizing particular aspirations such as Europe. I would hope he could do it on his own but Moyes is known for his obstinance.

But a different manager doesn't get away wins against our bogey team Bournemouth, or Utd with 10 men or Forest with a depleted squad so we end up with less points. People seem to think there are there is this ideal world where if a manager makes certain decisions we correctly we win every game. It doesn't work like that. I doubt there are many managers in world football who would have us higher up the table and I don't really want to take a risk and get the 99% who would have us significantly lower.

The views are so polemic its unbelievable.

With a hope for clarity, I think this is the 'general' situation with most supporters:

* DM did a good job keeping us up last season and was indeed a welcome 'safe pair of hands';
* We are pretty much safe now already, which in some ways shows how weak this league continues to be. It means the bar of 'we stayed up' or 'we're safe' is a very low one considering how bad we've been and the points deductions etc;
* We're awful to watch for the most part - even our wins are backs against the wall slug-fests;
* DM is extremely experienced - but football has moved on. It's why there is only him and Dyche still ploughing the same old furrow that the likes of Allardyce, Pulis, Hodgson etc ploughed.
* To have a progressive, positive manager who didn't witter on about limitations, but instead promoted all the positives would be so refreshing. Games would be less predictable and the match day experience would be so much better. Compare DM's soundbites with the incredible positivity of Ranieri when he first met his Leicester squad that the Board had told him would be lucky to survive relegation.

Football is about enjoyment as well as belonging. Sure, we're Evertonians and we'll turn up whatever the state of play, but the older we get the less time (and hope) we have that better times are round the corner. So, to the crux....

Don't give DM any spends this window, shake his hand and give him a decent farewell at the end of the season (not like his last farewell where he ditched us) and have a solid plan in place for the new man so he knows in advance the job is his, he can plan with the recruitment team and we can have a proper pre-season and look forward to a more entertaining season.
