2025/26 David Moyes

But almost the entire forum was absolutely insistent that we were massively underperforming 12 months ago, and the board seemed to agree because they sacked the manager. Since then we've massively upgraded the squad and expectations have changed. It's not like there are protests at the game and loads of long threads about how we need to sack the manager and who we should replace with like we see fairly regularly on here, it's just people having a bit of a moan about a poor run of form, it's about the most normal football fan behaviour imaginable to be honest, why are people getting so precious about it?
Massively upgraded the squad? WE NOR ANY CLUB will ever do anything of note if you have the JOB, Mykelenko, Barry and Beto as starting full back and strikers.

It may have been the way I wrote it. I have put my original quote below

The plan is spend what we did last summer each of the next 2 with youngsters like Dibling and Aznou. Loans will be provided to pad out the squad as required. I've heard the owners will not deviate from this plan even if we were to qualify for Europe this season. Moyes can aim for it all he wants as a personal goal but we would compete in it with what we have unless it was CL which would be the only reason for the owners to deviate.

So we will spend around 100-150m the next 2 summers as per the budget. Qualifying for the Conference or Europa will not change this as they don't generate the funds to justify it. Qualifying for the CL is different though as there is guaranteed mega money just for qualifying which would be used on the squad earlier. Will never happen anyway.

As I asked yesterday, youre saying they'll invest in u21 players and also loans.

How about the likes of KDH? Also the Rohl and Barry types u23?

Are the owners not concerned that the younger players will be ignored and underused by Moyes?

As others have said, it seems an odd choice of manager if they want to invest in youth. Those players will lose alot from working with him.

Still, that strategy with a manager keen on developing younger players would be fabulous.

I wonder if there's any daft West Ham fans out there multi quoting people because they absolutely hated Moyes.

Like you they probably wanted Graham Potter as well

I dont hate Moyes though I can see why West Ham fans would have had enough of a manager frequently shipping 3's, 4's and 5's in goals against.

Meanwhile looking at their ageing squad and wondering what he had in store for them next.

Pretty much how Sunderland fans felt before he relegated them with a bunch of ageing Everton cast offs and poor players he signed.

Because other people are throwing around things like "we've massively upgraded the squad" to justify the heightened expectations they have and it just simply isn't true. It's exaggeration to suit a particular bias.

We have improved marginally, definitely not massively.

You just said the Moyes enthusiasts consider a Conference league with West Ham to be an achievement (it is) after saying that Maresca won the same competition with Chelsea, insinuating it’s a comparable achievement?
Didn't insinuate anything, you merely inferred it. You might want to look inward to think about why you inferred it and then got cross at your own inference.

I'm not sure Maresca was a failure, he won the conference league (which the Moyes enthusiasts consider a big success)

Please tell me why you threw that Moyes bit in there if that’s not what you were inferring? What was the point of it, if not to compare the two achievements?

First up I can't infer when I'm writing something, I could imply (although I wasn't), only the reader can infer. Secondly, I was simply stating that Maresca was doing OK at Chelsea and was sacked for political not sporting reasons, I then listed some things that were a qualified success and in anticipation of some posters suggesting that winning the Conference League wasn't an achievement of any type I wanted to remind them that something that was a "big success" for one manager has to be considered at least noteworthy for another manager. Thank you for illustrating why that was necessary. You really don't have to be so defensive over Moyes, it's odd.

He definitely developed Rice well! I think he's genuinely good at improving players overall. But people love to counter the Moyes/youth thing by bringing up Rooney and Rice, and I'm just not sure if saying 'well he played the best English teenager of all time and the best English midfielder of a generation' says all that much. That's not a very achievable bar
But he also developed Rodwell, Pickford, Bowen and a whole load of others over the years. The problem is, sometimes youth players simply aren’t good enough. Signing Stones suggests he has a good eye for why it actually takes to succeed at the top level.

Rice himself has heaped praise on Moyes for how much he helped him, as have players like Cahill and Arteta. Also, players don’t just stop developing at 23, they should be improving and adjusting throughout their whole careers.

We’re really saying grealish for Harrison isn’t a massive upgrade? Or KDH for Doucoure? Ok yeah that sounds totally fair and absolutely not agenda driven whatsoever lads, absolutely. Of course we’ve still got issues in the squad, nobody’s expecting us to win the league are they, it’s all relative. Like I said, this isn’t even me criticising him, I’m just confused as to why people are losing their heads and acting as if saying ‘I’m a bit annoyed that 3 of the last 6 home games have been over by the 50th minute’ is some sort of outrageous attack on the manager.

He was crap at Man Utd, he was flying at Sporting. And not just in the Portuguese league, in the CL too. I'm not sure why everything has to always be at the extremes. Not everything has to be pure crap or utterly brilliant.
Thats fair, but taking manure from 6th or 7th to above the relegation spots is not the work of a decent manager.
He did good at sporting, but that team and league is such a different beast.
Based on how he fared in the premier league, he is a crap manager.

KDH has missed the run of games that has fans in a tizzy and Grealish missed 2 of them.
