2025/26 David Moyes

Some losses are to be expected. It’s the manner of the losses that annoys me. There have been some truly awful home performances in particular.

Its interesting to look at the root cause mate - to my mind we've had bad results against teams where our central midfield has been overrun, outplayed and out muscled.

Its a weakness of ours IMO.

At times its been dreadful, missed 5 home games due to my prostate operation but made the last 2 (Arsenal and Brentford) which too be honest I wish I hadn't. Not looking forward one little bit to Wolves and Sunderland as if they play like they did on Sunday I can see us struggling big style in both games. Was over the moon to finally get my season ticket for this season but now I am thinking why the hell did I actually bother, which we all know the answer to that I am an Evertonian and we stick by the club !

Agreed mate, did not want him back but too be fair he done well last season. This season though he has gone back into his stubborn, dithering ways.
I don't mean to be disrespectful to Moyes - he's a very competent manager who has done a good job on the task in hand - but when the task changes then it's horses for courses. The idea that he is eternally the best manager we can get is hilarious. It's a big world out there. We'll need a good recruitment process, mind - and that's where people are entitled to doubt the Friedkins.

I think if we look at next season, which of the players he's brought in will be in the 11? How has their development gone so far this season?

In short, what has he done and is he doing to improve the team itself for a push forward next season?
In addition to everything else, he maybe ought to be transitioning central defenders by now, or at least one will probably be needed in the Summer, and who knows how well Branners will do when he eventually returns ?

How much of a CM do we have ? I can't say I see much more than the ideal being to hoof over it to a forward/Grealish who generally hold, wait for the defensive line to push up and help then hope some magic happens. Obviously this also forfeits our possession most of the time.

Improvement happens very slowly for a longtime and then all at once. Hard to predict what next season will bring and when we will suddenly kick on but I didn’t expect it to happen immediately. It is happening and will continue to happen though.

He got it badly wrong vs Brentford. Just like he has other times this season too. Wolves in the cup etc…

However he’s also got it right more often, this is supported by our points won already this season.

Perfect - long way from it… Capable - more than.

A solid enough manager, who’s got us believing something other than relegation is possible.

A good 2025, hoping for a solid 2026.

It’s a tough one. Our record in managers and recruitment since Moyes mark 1 isn’t the best.

Nearly went out of existence in reality over the last few years, relegation would have killed us off. So in that sense having Moyes back for a period of a few years, re establishing us a club that is settled, more or less looking at the fringes of Europe and giving players a bit more incentive to join us / slowly improve us makes sense to me. I also look at West Ham…and don’t think we are as yet settled enough to be making silly appointments right now.

I do also agree though that Moyes has a ceiling, ultimately we all want Everton to back amongst the top 6 conversations, but not sure if he really has that in him in this day and age. You’d hope that TFG have an idea of where they’d want to go after Moyes - there are managers out there that would improve us over the next few years imo, in an ideal world Moyes would sneak us into the conference , we’d win the conference…and the we progress.

But football is never that easy.

For what it’s worth, I get angry at results like Brentford etc as much as the next person - but think I’ve been impacted so much by the horrors of recent times that being 14 points clear of the drop zone feels like winning the bloody league. Standards and my expectations have obviously dropped majorly!

Can’t disagree….my view from the day Moyes arrived was that he was a safe pair of hands who would stabilise us, but if we want to progress beyond being ‘plucky little Everton’ then he needs to be replaced either at the end of the season or at worst at the end of his 18 months. We need to shake his hand, give him the freedom of the Hill Dickinson and let him finish his long career with Celtic, Scotland or Preston.

Please remove Preston from that list. We send our young players there, we'll never hear the end of it..

I don't agree with the CM shout, it's the strongest position in our team.
Losing KDH is obviously massive, but the games we've collapsed, we've collapsed in all different areas in one game, rather than the odd player having a bad game..

I agree but we are also even weaker in full backs and striker.

Pay your money and make your choice where to upgrade first.
