I don't mean to be disrespectful to Moyes - he's a very competent manager who has done a good job on the task in hand - but when the task changes then it's horses for courses. The idea that he is eternally the best manager we can get is hilarious. It's a big world out there. We'll need a good recruitment process, mind - and that's where people are entitled to doubt the Friedkins.
It’s a tough one. Our record in managers and recruitment since
Moyes mark 1 isn’t the best.
Nearly went out of existence in reality over the last few years, relegation would have killed us off. So in that sense having
Moyes back for a period of a few years, re establishing us a club that is settled, more or less looking at the fringes of Europe and giving players a bit more incentive to join us / slowly improve us makes sense to me. I also look at West Ham…and don’t think we are as yet settled enough to be making silly appointments right now.
I do also agree though that Moyes has a ceiling, ultimately we all want Everton to back amongst the top 6 conversations, but not sure if he really has that in him in this day and age. You’d hope that TFG have an idea of where they’d want to go after Moyes - there are managers out there that would improve us over the next few years imo, in an ideal world Moyes would sneak us into the conference , we’d win the conference…and the we progress.
But football is never that easy.
For what it’s worth, I get angry at results like Brentford etc as much as the next person - but think I’ve been impacted so much by the horrors of recent times that being 14 points clear of the drop zone feels like winning the bloody league. Standards and my expectations have obviously dropped majorly!
