2025/26 David Moyes

The management of aznou makes absolutely no sense, no matter what the circumstance he refuses to bring him on. Wouldn’t have hurt to try him today even if he was put out on the wing. I’d hate to be a young player under Moyes. If I’m Harrison Armstrong I’d be begging the club to let me go back to Preston.

Management of Aznou and Dibling makes no sense.

Armstrong has nothing to lose as Moyes will send him back to Preston so his "former club can get promoted".

Absolutely shambolic management when coupled with the praise and use of £20mil flop Merlin Rohl who is "world class in training".

Takes no responsibility for that, as usual.

Get beat 4-2 and he comes out with “if we hadn’t conceded any goals we’d have won that”. Beyond parody.

Absolutely stupid management yesterday. Stubborn, arrogant and disgusting.

I cannot believe, how our old man treated this boy. Insisting playing JOB as right back with NO support at all, leaving him completely isolated with 2-3 Brentford-players all the time. What a frustrating night, for a young boy who needs to be guided - no matter the cost.

We all now, he is not a typical fast dribling winger that takes on 1:1. Hes way more technical in his style (like Cole Palmer), and he NEEDS people around him to play in small ares, between the lines and a supporting full back who can overlap.

If David Moyes doesnt defend him in media, he's letting everyone around him down and sweeps his responsibility underneath the carpet.

101% agree. Scapegoated a young boy today and not for the 1st time.

I’m just not convinced they are rubbish. Barry has 3 in last 6 games and has hit double figures in La Liga. He’s got pace, height, and can finish with both feet and link play.

Dibling was considered one of the best prospects out the Southampton academy. He was valued by them as a 100 mill player as a teenager and has been through all the England youth set ups.

Can’t really say for Aznou but again he was in the systems at Barcelona and Bayern and played in la Liga.

Rohl has pace, height and physicality and has been in the German youth set up and played well in the Bundesliga.

Now it’s just a given fact that they’re not good enough for a bottom half PL team?

Dibling and Rohl are being yanked around in fits and starts. Rohl has come on in about three different positions. Dibling gets hooked the second he’s not doing well so as soon as he makes one mistake in a match he starts over compensating because he knows he’s getting yanked. He should have stayed on today and been told to turn up in the second half, instead he’s off and Rohl is shoved right wing?

These lads have far more talent than the likes of Harrison Lindstrom McNeil Doucoure Maupay Rondon

They arent rubbish as shown in the games where Dibling has support and not hung out to dry and isolated.

Aznou not getting any mins should now be questioned based on Moyes utterly disgusting managment of Dibling.

We know he loves Merlin 'the donkey' Rohl in training. No way he should have been on for Dibling when we lacked a midfielder 2 vs 3 and Armstrong is a superior player that Moyes claimed to be watching.

Moyes either signed off on all these players or he didn’t. From what we know Kinnear has said, it sounds like he was part of the process and had a veto on which players came in.

I just don’t think this whole ‘these players aren’t ready’ will wash when he’s signed off on them. We didn’t have to buy Aznou, we didn’t have to buy Dibling, or Barry, or Rohl, or Alcaraz there were other players available.

he seems to be acting like Alcaraz wasn’t his buy and he doesn’t really want him, Aznou wasn’t a first team signing, Dibling and Rohl were bought by the club and aren’t ready for PL football, and he’s been left with no option but to play Barry.

These are his players, his signings. It worries me that Ndiaye is still our best wide player, Garner Gana Iroegbunam are trusted over Alcaraz and Rohl, and all of Mykolenko Coleman Garner and Patterson played left back before Aznou.

David 'deflector of blame' Moyes

All his signings. Just he prefers experience as evidenced by Michel 'the oaf' Keane back today

Moyes gets a 0/10 today... useless from beginning to end.

Definitely mentality for me. We don't win tackles or second ball and we don't press. I have no idea if it's coming from the manager's instructions or the players aren't good enough.

We also pass the ball far too slow and sideways. Everton football needs to be far more direct with a bot of tempo.

100% he has changed the formula from last season and its utter dross that benefits no one aside from possibly Grealish

It feels a bit like Moyes is aware he had to try to be more proactive and attacking than he would normally default to, but he can’t quite work out how to do it. Away from home when he can play his normal game we’re doing well but when tasked with making the running at home we’re consistently finding ourselves getting a chasing because he can’t quite get the balance right.

The first three obvious things:

1: Have pace at the back so the defence can play a higher line. This means O'Brien instead of Keane at centre back.

2: Match their 3 in midfield with quality and energy. This means using Armstrong over McNeil.

3: Attack using both flanks. This means using Patterson at right back.

I'm quite confident 90% of Evertonians would know this before the game began.

The concerning thing was that (ignoring the Beto sub) Rohl was the first player to be brought on and over Armstrong.

This is already a major question mark on Moyes. He has been raving about Rohl in training.

We can see Rohl can run and is a big chap. Is that the barometer for being a good player for Moyes...

2 big games coming up. If we don't get results, then season will be effectively over in terms of any excitement

Disagree. The excitement would come from Moyes integrating Aznou, Armstrong and Dibling.

Getting the new team ready for next season. Coaching them and drilling patterns of play with little to lose as were pretty much safe.

This was my main criticism of Dyche aswell. How passive it was the vast majority of times in the closing months of Goodison. Then Moyes comes in and it is 3-0 up at half time v Spurs and Leicester. The Man. United game was also a very good performance for an hour before a bit of a choke. Also lead v RS early. All in his first six weeks back.

I was naïve to think things would stay the same at BMD but when you look at it majority of home performances haven't been good at all. Brighton and Palace games were slow starts and pretty lucky games to win based on the chances created by both.

Luckily the away form is better than it was a few years ago so that avoids any relegation battles these days but to really kick on the team needs to be much better at home, Newcastle is the best template for this in the long run.

He changed style from last to this season. Far far slower when we need quick play.

Grealish is clearly under instructions as he changed to being more direct when the game was gone. Same way Dibling has been doing on the right with slowing play and checking back.

Under instructions.

Exactly what i thought, as bad as we were, you can't take away how good they were.

I'm not trying to make any kind of excuse for our performance, but watching them, thats what i want to see out of us.

Quick intricate passing, fast transition, pressing was top drawer.
Sweet early balls into the box and clinical finishing.

Their game was basically spot on..

Our 2 goals came from Jack putting the ball straight in the box, rather than trying to cut back.
That's where his assists came from beginning of the season.

Learn from it and do it more, Barry's getting into the box more now, so no excuses on getting the ball in quicker..

Spot on and what ive been saying for the past couple of months

The slow build up helps no one and has to go.

Its not an Everton way and will never get the crowd behind the team.

I think there needs to be a bit of a reality check and this isn't really about Moyes but what's expected from this squad of players.

The net spend over the last 5 years will have been a paltry amount compared with other premier league teams. I haven't checked but I would be surprised if we aren't in the bottom three of net spenders.

Add in how the team has performed over the past 5 years compared with this season.

The only ready made plug and play signings were Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall. Both have been excellent. The likes of Dibling, Aznou, Royl, Barry etc were all signed for the club to reap the rewards beyond this season. This can be revisited in a few years to further assess those signings.

There are huge issues at both the left and right back positions. These must be addressed asap if the club is to progress.

The team's best defender (Branthwaite) has been unavailable all season and he's a game changer given his pace and ability to play a higher line.

I agree with most of the reservations about Moyes but all things being equal, 28 points from 20 league games is a good return. Not amazing but a good return.

I want the team to improve and progress as much as anyone else but it takes time.

We have no worries regarding relegation and I think we need to appreciate how much most other teams have spent on players over the past 5 years (far more than Everton) and continue to struggle and compete for a top 8 spot in the league.

I think Moyes will manage until the end of the season and then move upstairs. I'm good with that.

We have a lovely stadium and once key players like Branthwaite, Gueye, Dewsbury-Hall and Ndaiye return, results will really pick up and we might be able to push for a European spot.

My view is enjoy the ride.

Conceding 4s and 5s became a regular occurrence at West Ham under Moyes. They were never as bad as they are now, but it's following him here with these home drubbings. He needs to get a grip of it, we can't be conceding 3 goal plus at home this often.
West Ham had a bad defence by that point and Rice wasn't there to cover and protect. They have since spent over £100 million on that defence and continue to concede a load of goals.

I fully agree about Everton conceding too many at home. I think the main issue is the pairing of Keane with Tarkowski. Too slow and when playing at home the issue looks even worse as we try to play a higher line rather than sitting deep away from home. I don't foresee those issues continuing once Branthwaite returns although I do wish O'Brien and Tarkowski would be paired together in his absence as at least JOB has a bit of pace. Full backs need to be addressed of course as well.

We'll get KDH, Ndiaye and Gueye back and we'll stabilise and start winning games again.

But the last few weeks was really the test for Moyes to pass IMO: a month or so without players who are a safe pair of hands on the pitch and get results, by and large. Winning while they were away would have been a good indicator that he's the right man for the job here.

However, he's shown himself up for what he is: a man who comes up with excuses rather than makes do and mends and uses creatively the players he did have at his disposal. He's used the media to talk up 'depletion' and excuse him for not utilising the players he had to choose from.

Instead of proving to us what a lateral thinking and inventive coach he could be, he hid behind excuses. That's the way this feller rolls, and that's why he's never what we need if we truly want to get back to the top table again.
The manager's job is to find solutions. If a manager is dependent on having his best team out for results, he's not going to cut it at any club. I didn't expect four wins from Burnley, Forest, Brentford, and Wolves, but I felt we needed to be getting eight or nine points from those games if we were truly upwardly mobile. At best now, we can get seven. Not the end of the world if we fall a point or two short, I suppose, but the manner of that implosion yesterday brings everything into question. That wasn't us losing 2-4 to a top six club with more resources. It was us being hammered at home by Keith Andrews.

If Moyes was going to make the case for staying on, he needed to make it in December and January. At the very least now, he has to beat Wolves and get past Sunderland. If he can't do that, he's unsuitable for the role.
