2025/26 David Moyes

@toffeeblue9 not to say that Moyes hasnt got us a fair number of points up to todays game.

But for me as ive said since the start of the season.

Europe or use the young players to be ready for a new attacking team next season.

At this rate we will have neither.

Players drop in performance lies at the door of the manager.

Changing a solid defence is on the manager

Playing McNeil and Rohl is on the manager

Mykolenko may not be an attacking left back but he gave Grealish a lot of support today.

Obrien for Dibling = Zero.

Hooking young players after hanging them out to dry is utterly disgraceful.

We had the chance to go 5th today and this manager threw it away.
Manager is ultimately responsible for results and performances, but I can't lay the blame for players losing 2nd balls and individual battles at the manager's door. There were tactical and personnel mistakes he made and I think we should debate that, but by trying to make every single thing that went wrong his fault, you devalue your own arguments.

If players are being suggested who aren't the right signings, then it's hard to get everyone on the same page.
If what we're told is true, he basically lobbied for the sacking of the DOF. He was certainly the dominant football voice on whatever recruitment system they cobbled together.

If there is friction between Moyes and the suits on recruitment, they'll likely want their own man in that position soon enough.

What I would say, however, is that these suits hadn't everyone on board last summer. Some of these competent professionals were still on gardening leave when we were attempting - and generally failing - to sign players.

Bottom line for me, however, is the manager hasn't enough credit in the bank to survive a spat with the suits on recruitment. We need alignment at the very least. And suits are rarely the fall guys when that isn't there.

Moyes says:
  • We gave away a terrible first goal
  • The goals conceded were 'unlike us'
  • The changes at half time 'backfired'
  • Goals were conceded in a 'really, really shabby manner'
The shortest post-game press conference ever.
I mean, I agree with all of that but the changes he made at HT were on him. I thought at the time that they were mental and I don't think I've changed my mind

You're not reading what I'm saying, you're reading what you want to read.

Again, I was in the very clear minority in not rating our recruitment in the summer. The posts are there. May, right until the window closed.

So for clarity - I'm not saying we recruited well.

We lack balance, pace, and a striker. I'd banged on loads that I'd have kept Calvert-Lewin, and signed pace out wide and full backs as a priority.

But nevertheless, the debate was in relation to comparisons to Everton's previous squads - which were awful.

  • Last summer we spent a club record amount.

  • Last summer we spent more than the previous 7 years combined. Thats without Grealish factored in, or a £17m obligation for Rohl.

There isn't a single player you'd both tell me who left in the summer we should have kept, and and considering this season we've been able to play Grealish instead of the likes of Harrison or Gray, or Dewsbury-Hall instead of Doucoure - then yes, of course as a squad we've improved. We're not gone backwards, unless you want to tell me the players we lost who we're missing.
Just for reference I looked at what average review was - 8/10

Tbh I’m still comfortable with my 7 given all our outgoings and in comparison to previous years but we don’t half miss having full back options that were ready to start and an extra option for striker.

But you can't have alignment on recruitment until you're scouting identifies the right players.

That's the problem. We are identifying some really poor players as potential signings.

I have no idea who is ultimately responsible. And that's the main problem

But my biggest concern is who is suggesting some of these players to.the manager or DOF, or the recruitment team or whoever?

Do we just have a problem with our scouting model and can't identify good players?

I think there's a recruitment team (some come in after the window closed...) and Moyes makes the final call.

There's talk Moyes has his own models etc on recruitment too.

I can't imagine we have people signing players and Moyes just going along with it.

Been some frustrating performances like today's for sure, but also some surprise wins to balance it out. The nature of being mid table. I think that's just where this squad is right now and we'd all be saying similar things no matter who was in charge.

We're probably a year or two from really knowing.

Tad concerning though when we pay the money we have for the likes of Dibling who isn't getting a sniff an dragged off at HT, and Aznou. They could come good of course but who knows?

Moyes changed a defence that won the game when they were basically in the alamo.

Obrien & Tarks should have been the centre backs.

Patterson right back to continue combining with Dibling down the right.

Clear as day.

But no. What does Moyes do? Subs Dibling off and replaces him with Rohl who STILL had no right back support and doesnt look a footballer.

Diblings confidence must be rock bottom and he must be totally frustrated now.

McNeil a passenger and clear as day that he should be sold with Armstrong starting.

You can bet your house on Moyes going for 'experience' against Wolves when we should be using youth and attacking.
The continuing playing Obrien at RB is the most idiotic thing. He just cant play there. Another one on Moyes that
