Cycling thread

Some talk that the N Italian races could be bollexed by coronavirus - MSR, Tirreno Adriatico and even the Giro. Guess we'll know in the next couple of weeks how things develop.

Remco the GOAT sitting at second favourite in some quarters for the Giro, after showing his aris to all and sundry in the Algarve stage race last week.

Get some of them Campag Deltas.
Sadly my one looks no way near as good as a Delta. It does stop the bike though, so has that going for it.

e-bike pedestrian death from last year in London is in the courts at the mo - could have some serious repercusions for ebikes in the UK. Guy was caning it at ca. 30mph on a de-restricted e-bike (legal ones are limited to 15.5mph)

De-restricting the motor is really common AFAICT, it's not like some mad scally thing to do - shops happy to advise on it etc. Apparently the motor cutting in and out around the limit is really annoying so plenty of folk do it.

The Classics begin - Omloop Het Nieuwsblad today, and a fine win for Jesper Stuyven who was the stong man in the final furlongs and beat Yves Lampaert in the sprint. Our man in Ghent @Disgruntledgoat will be on the spot, no doubt doing laps in a lake of Belgian ale.

Stuyven has an immense 2018 Classics season as a young rider but something went awry last year (injury?), so good to see him back at the sharp end.

Wout van Aert very lively in the race which is great to see, suggests he's bang on form following his v serious crash in the Tour last year.

Bloke who mowed down the woman on his illegal ebike not guilty m'lud.

His barrister earning her corn there IMHO. Engine seems to make all the difference. Lad who killed a pedestrian stepping out a couple of years back in London, on a brake-less fixed gear, got sent down.

Nico Portal passed away yesterday.

Tough one to take, interviewed him a few years a ago, wheel sucked him in a cyclo in the pyrenees years before that that.

A lovely man, completely unaffected, loved his riders (genuinely) and one of the few people in cycling nobody ever had a bad word about.

Also 40 years old... the days count, people.

Ride on Nico.
