He won't be able to attract the level of non-English player we need anyway. He'll get the odd former England international after a final payday/chance, but that's about it. He's basically unknown on the continent, and if he is known for anything it is for taking Fergie's last champions to seventh.

No European football, no marquee manager, no chance.

Spent a while in Spain but was kicked out of there.

….i just don’t get putting your best defensive midfielder at RB, the lad has just got in the England squad.
I now he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and I’ll probably get pelters for saying it, but I don’t get why Patterson hasn’t been given a proper go at right back recently!
To me it’s blindingly obvious that O’Brien should have been playing at centre half, take your pick which of Tarkowski or Keane he replaced (neither have been great!). Everything slows down or breaks down when O’Brien ventures beyond the half way line!
For all his faults Patterson does get up and down the pitch ok, has a bit more pace and not a bad cross on him!
He seems to have been fit for a while, and yet sits warming the bench while Moyes keeps insisting on playing his three centre halves!
May be he’s not the longer term answer at RB, but the O’Brien “experiment” at RB can’t continue next season!

In moyes first period defence was always decent. Always had 4 decent center halfs could play surely moyes will want to sign a few decent center halfs in the summer. Defence has shown to be very poor last few games, scored 5 goals in last 2 games unfortunately also conceded 5 goals so 2 draws.
It is better with O'Brien in the middle but he will not play the perfectly decent Patterson for some reason. We see players have good games then are never seen again for ages. Moyes is perplexing, his caution is resulting in draws and defeats because he thinks setting out to win or bust is too risky. Caution is producing the results he fears.

….he doesn’t ’get a run’ because he’s not very good, that much is patently obvious ;)

Not saying he’s the answer going into next season, but also not sure he’s ever had a proper “run” of games to prove otherwise due to his uncanny ability to pick up injuries!
One thing’s for certain we’ve learnt nothing if O’Brien starts next season at right back!

…..he doesn’t need a run to show he’s not the answer, the proof is there.

£80+ million of staff walked last summer.

Who was that?

And separately ( but connected ), how does this change what Moyes has wasted?

I mean whatever balance sheet chicanery creates funds is one thing, right? ( And a good thing, assuming it's sustainable, FFP etc)

My point is, that money was still spent, and the 80m that walked wasn't any of the regular squad.

So he's had a free hit with 130m+ what another 20m for Rohl

- Grealish injured missed around half the season
- Barry not good enough
- Rohl scarcely played, same Aznou
- Dibling, utterly wrong signing. Moyes semi dissing him in comparisons to TG
- JoB out of position the whole season, stuck behind Keane
- no full backs

If we went for Ireaola this summer I wouldn't mind.

Out loyalty to V1 Moyes and his work after Dyche, am curious to see what Moyes ( who will prob get next season) does next season and if those signings made truly resolve the big problems we have around competitiveness, creativity.

Winning our last two games and getting in Europe would at least force him to use our squad more.

well, he's gonna have to go some to top the goals and assists from midfield with two to play...

I’m going on value to the team which means just as much to me like Gareth Barry going back a few seasons and Colin Harvey going back even further who scored 18 league goals in a career of over 350 games for the Blues and they were never asked to switch positions like James who hasn’t missed a minute of this seasons games and has been a solid 7/10 or 8/10 player for most of those games but under rated by many fans, I’m not saying James was as good as those two players but he is definitely a very good player.

Patterson is out of contract isn't he ? I think it is written in stone that Young won't be here next season ,I agree Seamus is done but no Grealish for me -too expensive and too old ,great player but could be over the hill next season and for 20mill plus outlay with no return it seems a panic signing. We need Moyes out and Glasner in or in fact anyone who understands Plan B or at least has one .
Grealish will only cost a part of his wage. He's sat on a huge contract no one will match, he wont sign for a move, and no one will stump up a fee. The only scenario where he gets some football is, he signs another loan and keeps on the city money gravy train. He's free to sign for anyone in August 2027. There's £15m to bank before then.

Young isn't here now.

Patterson I believe has at least another year and possibly an extension to activate.

Glasner is unlikely coming here, he's made two respective finals (winning the first) in his last two years at Palace, he got fortunate with a few players coming good (Guehi, Eze, Wharton...) but can't keep them, so is seeing out his contract and can pick and choose his next job.

We wont have £80m+ of playing staff walk off the books this summer. So we wont be playing catch up like we were last year.

Alright @Alan Whittle - just saw your private jet parked up at Manchester airport.

Didn’t know you were visiting mate.

Defence is far too fragile and slow. Especially when Jarrod is missing. Panic at the Dicko seems to be a regular event.
They also sit too deep and invite pressure which inevitably leads to shots and goals. We allow possession outside our area from every team - not just City who everyone allows that freedom.
We should be keeping attackers outside our box - no-one should be deeper than the penalty spot from bog standard attacks.
Let Pickford handle anything in between.
It's plain to see Tarky and Keane are slowing up though - and their reactions are not sharp enough.
We can score goals when we need to but defensively it's a horror show - whether this be from corners or other set pieces or just pressure we allow to build by sitting too deep. Defensive coaches need shooting. We can all see what's going to happen when we retreat into our box.
Moyes game management is also questionable. Pickford has one weakness and that's his size. He can't do anything about that but he does need protection. Moyes always takes off the lads who can defend corners amd set pieces when we are up against it which invariably lead to them scoring.
Until we fix this we are always likely to bottle it when games should be seen out comfortably.
