Presuming that (in a post brexit world) uk abattoir standards are kept at a reasonable health level. No guarantee of that.

UK and US health standards are some of the highest in the world, as in the case for most developed European countries. What is the problem here, is not just the conditions that meat is butchered but the oversight and the implementation of health guidelines. Which in China's case are virtually non-existent.

You simply can't go and catch a wild animal and sell it to the general public. For obvious reasons. Yes for your own personal use. Hunting etc...but making a commercial venture out of it requires strict guidelines to ensure the general public are protected.

This wouldn't be an issue if we are talking about some back water country, however we are massively invested in China. And as a consequence they have to adhere to the strict guidelines that farmers and suppliers adhere to in our own countries.

If the Chinese government can't or are unwilling to abide by that. Then the 1% can suck on it.

It's outrageous we are held to higher standards whilst standards are wantonly disregarded elsewhere. They need to clean up their act or we need to clear out.

As bad as it sounds I hope we dont follow China/Singapore and do longer lockdowns as simply put in a globalised world it doesnt work as like we are seeing with Singapore now people will just bring it back over here from other countries be it visiting or returning folk.

I would prefer we do short lockdowns of say 3 weeks - give hospitals that time to get as many treated and discharged before opening back up society and letting more of us come into contact for short periods before locking it down again.

Whilst the numbers infected would increase in the coming months you would imagine the figures would drop come say August/September time when the bulk of the population has had it and hopefully passed it before the harsh winter months.

I just dont think its feasible to lockdown for the 18+ months or so until experts believe a vaccine could be found by.

As of Friday, that was the government plan, though think the planned lockdowns would probably be longer.

Whether or not that plan has now changed (again) I don't know

Nobody anywhere is talking about 18 month lockdowns.

I'll be ordering a pint in the pub in 10 years time and the barmaid will say "You've got a lot of scars on your fists and knuckles. Are you a boxer or something?"

To which I'll have to reply "No, I just washed my hands until they bled during the COVID 19 pandemic"

I doubt she'll be flinging herself into my manly arms following that one

In all seriousness, my hands are bloody killing me

Anyone got any suggestions on how best to deal with it?

How the hell we got people like him, Duterte, Trump and Johnson elected all at the same time shows the general population might be low risk of catching it too.

Speaking of which...

Looks like Trump is going to do exactly that at Easter, crucify the nation and hope they rise up from the dead later.

I dont quite understand what Duterte has to do with anything?

Manila was put under 1 month lockdown.

First country to shut the stock exchange.

8pm - 5am curfew (playing purge broadcast)

Only 1 person per household allowed out to buy food/meds.

Passes need to be requested to go outside.

Nobody anywhere is talking about 18 month lockdowns.

But realistically if your aim was to simply reduce numbers of infected completely thats what you would need to do I imagine (or at the very least months on end in between waves).

China has been in lockdown since January but they already expect infected numbers to rise again.

I imagine our strategy is the vulnerable locked down for 12 weeks, the rest of us 3-4 before slowly opening back up town centres/work with those not deemed particularly vulnerable coming into contact with an inevitable second wave of this thing.
