Step dad who I also work with has been up all night with fever and headache, we both work in self employed construction and it's been a joke that sites have been kept open, caring more for the economy than the health of people

By keeping the sites open they've left your average working man who lives wage to wage stuck between feed your family or stay home and don't get sick

This government is an absolute joke, I feel well but have decided I won't be going in, wether that means I'll be looking for a new job in a few weeks now because the company we work for will see it that we've let them down, but this is getting ridiculous that construction workers have been left to just carry on while everyone else has been told to stay home and stay safe

Get signing. This man is so in the pockets of the CCP, that his corruption and incompetence has led to the situation that we all find ourselves in. Hopefully, if enough sign, he'll realise that his position is untenable so he can no longer do any further damage.

Can't see him resigning during this, but he'll clearly be at the front of the queue along with the Chinese communist party when the recriminations begin after this crisis.

Were relatively young people being hospitalised with it en masse though? That is when you know you are facing a different beast.

It is a nice thought that we may have already had it but as you can see from the numbers as the deaths go up that clearly that is not case.

Ok, the DM is trying to scare people about the Hantavirus. I familiar with it because I used to live in New Mexico, where most of the US cases have occurred.

Most cases happen when people are cleaning their house, garage, shed, or barn, etc. and they come in contact with infected rodent droppings, urine, saliva, nesting materials, or particles from these.

Rare cases of human-to-human transmission have happened in Chile and Argentina.

Most of the US cases are in the western states. New Mexico has had 109 cases since 1993. We have mice here in Vegas that are infected, about 13% of the population I think. Nevada has had 28 cases since 1993.

There is nothing to worry about for most of the population. I don't know about the infection rates for the rest of the world. If you come across rodent droppings, etc. check online to see if there is Hantavirus in your area. You can do a wet clean up (no vacuums or brooms) or get a professional.

Thats true, and that article does read as if the journalist really wanted to get herd immunity in there somewhere and so made it sound as if 50% were safe already (which is not what the study appears to say).

However the idea that its far more widespread than is being indicated by current testing - which the media persist in using - has a lot of sense behind it, I think (especially given the lag in identifying it both in China and elsewhere).

There's a twitter thread posted at the beginning of this thread from a doctor saying they traced the genetics of this virus back to November 2019. If true then it'll have had a month or so to circulate before it was actually announced
