When this is over, and I think it will be sooner than many think, I hope that people across the world reflect on the cause of this totally preventable mess and start treating animals with more respect. Isn't there also an argument that hormones in the commercial meat industry leading to reductions in the human immune systems?

In a world of vegetarianism I'm pretty sure these types of viral pandemics would not happen.

Did the UK tightening up it's food hygiene after mad cow disease and its human equivalent vCJD? I seem to remember something about contaminated food pellets, that were given to cows who developed the disease, then it was transferred to human by eating the contaminated meat.

You're spot on there. The spring breakers, the folks who went to the pub over the weekend etc...Unfortunately the damage has been done. And quite frankly it might have been averted far earlier if it wasn't for inaction.

However, we can stop now. And this is the crux. Authoritarian regimes distrust their populace. We live in liberal democracies or republics. That allows for a greater degree of trust and freedom for the citizenship.

And what I mean here is personal responsibility it doesn't come without sacrifices. Our systems of government has been earned through sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears. The least we can do as the recipients, is show we can uphold the system that our ancestors fought for.

There's more here at stake than folks getting sick. This is a test of our systems of government. It's a test that we simply can't afford to lose.

Well said....

And as a consequence laws were changed. I'm looking towards the government of China to do the same. When an imminent threat is established thankfully our nations get on the ball.

This isn't the first time an outbreak has originated from wet markets. Temporarily closing them down isn't an option. They have to be permanently shut.

A man in the UK who allegedly coughed at police officers and claimed he had coronavirus has been charged with assault.

Darren Rafferty, 45, of Dagenham, east London, will appear in court charged with grievous bodily harm and three counts of assault on an emergency worker.

The Metropolitan Police said that, during his arrest yesterday, "he coughed on officers and stated that he was suffering from coronavirus".
