That was probably a slightly stronger flu bug. The timing most likely was coincidental -- my sister came home for Christmas with it, my mom, aunt and uncle all got sick but my stepfather and I didn't have a problem.

Could well have been. No idea. But plenty have mentioned that they got sommet that didnt feel right.

True. It's nigh on impossible to trace any virus down to its initial victim unless it's been deliberately released into the population.
On a side note, how's the better half doing in all this?

Doing Ok thanks mate. Slowly putting on weight, slowly getting stronger. Just taking it day by day, (who isnt?), and I just do my best to make sure I dont get the virus. That would not end well.

Everyone I knew had it over Christmas and New Year.

The younger ones got over it in a couple of days and the likes of my mum and dad (80 ) where in bed for a full week and properly laid out.

Took me a good 2 weeks to get over it, the aching muscles / joints was the worst thing.

Makes you wonder if it was already here due to China keeping quiet about it ?

It’s all irrelevant now anyway.
My missus had it bad too

But to all those thinking, or rather wishing that they've already had the virus. Where were all the people who should have been clogging up our hospital beds. Face it. That was a completely different illness doing the rounds.

Didn't the UK flu jab miss the dominant strain this year?

Just going off at a tangent, are there any explanations as to why London's death rate amongst known infected cases is so much lower than for the north west of England, 4.7% as opposed to 6.7%? (I suppose though not as puzzling as the rate in Portugal being only 1.4% when next door in Spain it's over 7%).
There are slight differences in the genetic makeup of the virus, some are more dominant in geographic regions than others.

Seen some speculation that there might be differences in their harmfulness but not aware of any study so far that has evidence one way or the other so for now no proof and might just be more to do with the demographics of the underlying population exposed.

It is highly unlikely that people had Coronavirus in the UK in December.

Talking like this just muddies the waters. From looking on Facebook we’ve had about 30 million cases over Christmas....

It is but at the same time it shouldn't be just ignored as impossible when (sensible) people describe exactly the same symptoms.

It doesn't take away from how serious the thing is at all.

I personally think it's highly likely to have just been a bad flu or chest bug. But perhaps that is useful when it comes to having antibodies in people's systems if the symptoms are similar?

But there were also confirmed (I guess retrospectively) cases of it in Wuhan as early as November - including the first British man to have been diagnosed with it.

The thing there is though that if the disease is more widely spread (and its a big if which must be tested) then you would still see the same filling up of hospitals over the same sort of time period - eg if there are 100000 have been infected in the UK now and 10% have an illness resulting in hospitalization, this will be the same as if a million have it but only 1% have it that bad they need hospital treatment.

The disease is obviously spreading in the UK but the state of the spread is something that must be determined asap.
