Is private an option or does that just make it worse by prioritising those same NHS staff for those with money? I assume we're heading for a hybrid model but is the private resource even available (and separate) to facilitate that?
Patients do get sent to private. Although to what extent I don't know. General medicine is not my thing. The trust's then pick up the fee, not the patient. Obviously patients have the option to go private of they choose to and have the money.
I think private has its place, and if you can afford it and want your treatment quicker then more power to you. I chose to go private for a scan on my arm after my vaccine. The wait was over 12 months at the time for NHS.
Staff don't generally want to work private though. Yes, base pay is more. But benifts like sick pay, holidays, unsocial enhancements are not anywhere near as good.
I do agree we are heading to a hybrid system. And to be honest I am not sure that is a bad thing. The NHS is not a going concern. It is a mess, and needs help. There is only so much !oney you can throw at it, before you have to say enough is enough and have to reform. That doesn't mean I am in favour of a private service. Just the need for reform and if that means certain procedures stop being offered through the NHS and moved to private, then so be it. I am looking at things like IVF ( which I benifited from), boob jobs etc
