Jeepers Pal, you always seem to get it just when you are due a jab - hope your doing ok pal!

Youl be super charged with Antibodies.
I know mate. Just crap timing but fortunately I'm back at work tomorrow anyway and on lates so it's not like it's ruined my Christmas plans. I've been extra cautious over Xmas and haven't let up on the testing. But I had a pretty good idea this morning when I woke up that I'd be positive given the fatigue. I'm sure anyone who's had it can attest to what it's like, and I'm not somebody who likes to lay around in bed.

But thanks mate, feeling loads better already tbh. Gonna go get a PCR in a bit but my symptoms started yesterday really - bit of a tickly throat, bit of a sniffle. I was out for a few hours on Boxing Day so did just think it was a hangover tbh. I was fine last night, just tired. Slept like a log too. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets. The mate who I saw on Boxing Day who's also tested positive feels absolutely fine. He just had a bit of a headache yesterday and also thought he had a hangover, but tested as he was due to go to London today.

Aye, supercharged with antibodies but since I had COVID in July I swear I've caught every single bug that's gone around lol

The seeds are being planted to do away with isolation now. In a few months time it wouldn’t surprise me if all legal enforcement of isolation when positive is abandoned.
For the up to date fully vaccinated only of course. I imagine we're looking at vaccine only passes permanently too, which I doubt many would complain about. I'd never use one, don't want anything to do with that sort of society, but I've already accepted I won't be doing the things I used to enjoy anymore.

Hope your cousin recovers. Such a shame that these conspiracy theories about the vaccines are still going around. The sad reality is it's often too late when they make the realisation that they should have taken them.
Yup. She was of the opinion that she was young and therefore invincible and didn’t like being told what to do by any institution.

She wouldn’t listen to any of us, I just hope she gets through this, as she has 2 young children who need their mum.

Wish I was as principled as you.

I don't agree with the concept but if I'm fully boosted and vaccinated I'm going to make the most of it lol

Good to hear mate, hopefully it peaks today. A lot of people have said anecdotally Omicron comes on more quickly than Delta but is a shorter course. I see the CDC reduced the isolation time in the states yesterday from 10 to 5 days.

Rotten luck mind and not to go into your personal situation, but it shows maybe how Omicron is a tricky strain in terms of antibody escape be it vaccine or previous infection. You'd think after your jabs and previous infection, you'd be up there with the best on antibody levels. Hopefully though they are leading to milder and shorter impact this time.

Honestly I was so happy to get an unexpected summer of having stuff back, it really helped as it felt like I was stopping on my own terms

If I can feel about festivals and gigs how I now do about foreign travel (a nice fun thing I used to do that I can't anymore) I'd be fine. I definitely wasn't there 12 months back but I am now.

Well I am doing as I'm told. Getting my booster - well I'm not getting it tomorrow as I planned as now I need to push it back again. Wearing masks. Testing pretty much daily.

It's been here 2 years now and we had Prof Ferguson's group predicting 6,000 deaths per day two weeks ago. And yes, I know that was a worst-case scenario. Doesn't mean I can't call it out as being bulls***. You don't need a PHD to think that it was mad.

All I said is I think it's fine to have doubts if - and it is a big if - they introduce vaccines for the whole population every few months. That's the point @ForeverBlue92 made in his post and it's what I reacted to.

You’ve acknowledged that it was a worst case scenario here, but the other thing to acknowledge it that it wasn’t a prediction, it was part of a range of scenario forecasting, which is perfectly correct to do in this situation.

Make a range of forecasts for many different scenarios, then track the real world data to build evidence for which scenario is playing out.

Just throwing that one scenario back and saying it was a prediction, implies that scientists or SAGE saw it as a likely outcome, when the reality is that it would have been clearly stated as an extremely low probably likelihood.

Definitely more against the argument of the vaccines stopping transmission, and being more about protecting the health service

A colleague of mine has tested positive. Nowhere available to go and get a PCR anywhere in England it's saying on the government website. No lateral flow kits available either. So I guess the only way they want people doing PCR tests currently is to order one and get it sent to your house

There seems to be a bit of a blind spot in terms of what people think a vaccine is for.

The aim of a vaccine is to teach your immune system to fight a virus. It teaches your body to recognise a threat and generate a response to that threat before the threat makes you seriously ill. That’s it really. In some cases the immune system will identify the virus and contain it before it replicates enough to even flag as present in the system via a test. In other people it contains the virus enough that it doesn’t do much damage but is still present enough that tests show that you have it.

What they don’t do is stop the virus from entering your system, and, if your immune system is compromised for whatever reason it still might not be strong enough to combat the virus. Particularly if a lot of the virus enters into your system in the first place.

To say that they aren’t effective based on their objective is frankly ignoring all data on the subject.

Politicians and media told us if you took the vaccine you would never catch it and never transmit it. They even hinted at elimination.

Anyone who read beyond that at what the scientists said would know what you said but the vast majority don't and are still taken by surprise by a double/ triple vaccinated person catching it

Either that or there's a walk-in one that I've just been to mate. But obviously not everybody can get to that.

Luckily I ordered some LFTs the other day and I have 4 left, so there should be some on the way soon
