There hasn't been any mitigation - we've proved once again that there still aren't any effective defence measures put in place against new variants or to contain / slow the spread of such things, which nearly two years in should be a lot bigger scandal than it is (certainly a bigger scandal than them having parties whilst everyone else was locked down).

The Tories blundered politically mate, they built no flexibility in to their reaction around this, they thought the vaccines were the silver bullet, they lifted all public health advice and restrictions, had a freedom day. The clever play was bring to bring restrictions back in Sep, they however painted themselves into a corner, any mitigation measures now are seen as regressive and peope are in disbelief that the vaccines weren’t the silver bullet and anything asked of them now is seen as an attack on their liberty. Could have all been handled differently and better.

100%. This thing is going to last years, with all of required to act with vigilance and with compassion for each other - sadly those are things alien to the modern Conservative Party.

I'm just saying it how I see it. The goal posts are moved completely time and time again. If we lockdown this year to help health services then I expect it to happen every year.

If we trust vaccines (which i do) then a lockdown is an irrational concept.

Almost as if it is a constantly evolving situation

My wife is a nurse and she was out last night on the drink with 5 of her nurse mates. Zero appetite for it and they couldn't care less anymore. They got an email this week from the trust or whatever it is spelling out to them there’s an expectation that they will all pick up extra shifts over winter. Again no appetite for that either.

They can expect what they like. Doesn't mean anybody is going to do it.
Same with our trust but not as ridiculous as an email
Loads of Bank shifts out out for next few weeks. In anticipation of the mass outbreak of people having symptoms and/or actually getting the bleeding thing.
Funnily enough. Nobody picking any of them shifts up.
It's almost like people are saying, I am going to have an Xmas/NY this year.
Strange that, people wanting a life.
I think people who are not ward based just assume everyone wants to give up their life to work through this. Turns out we don't.

Tbf mate you're painting out like the summer reopening was a bad idea. It wasn't at all.

The issue has been this Omicron spread and how fast it's been. Luckily it looks like it's mild and isn't going to result in as many deaths as it could have but it's a separate matter to the whole 'freedom day' thing. It really is mate.
