I'd say not many to that question. Dont personally know anyone anti vax but pro lockdown
My question was to those people who disagree with vaccines and lockdown. I’m including boosters in that as I’ve definitely seen a ‘vaccinated but deffo not getting a booster’ rhetoric which is logically flawed. There is a correlation there and it was to those people specifically (ie not at you - I can totally see an argument against lockdowns).

I think you have assumed I’m pro lockdown. Frankly I’m not really. Though I think that people are being complacent about this. We are in a period of uncertainty and whilst data on the omicron variant looks promising, the sheer numbers associated with that variant can cause complications plus we don’t necessarily have robust data on it yet. Given that uncertainty, and the potential pressure on the NHS, we might need to play it safe for a period. I’d rather not but I don’t particularly like the alternative of a destroyed health service.

My issues are as much longer term as short term. If people say we cant cope now with such how vaccine rates, then I dont think we will ever cope. We have to trust the vaccine and act on probability not possibility.

This is short termism and its not good. If someone can only suggest lockdowns then I dont believe they are an expert or should be advising government.

That’s just not true. You have to be conscious of the evolution of a virus. You are extrapolating this period too far into the future. A lot of people are. This will get easier over time. Next year we’ll be in a better position than last year, in the same way that this year we are in a better position than last.

Right now, in the midst of its life cycle, it’s probably best to be cautious. Let the boosters do their job, assume we’ll need boosters for the foreseeable as the virus evolves (like we do with other viruses), be fairly confident at some point boosters will likely only be necessary for the vulnerable. While we are in that phase have contingencies to help slow the spread so that health services aren’t overwhelmed at various points.

I could cope with a targeted 2 week circuit breaker in January no problem its a miserable dark wet month.

My only real concern is 2 weeks turning into 4, then 2 months and so on.

However, it's the uncertainty that's the killer.

I'm afraid I dont share your same optimism.

I think if we have a lockdown now, this will becone normalised and will then happen every winter to help the health service. Nothing will be different next year and variants will come every now and then for the foreseeable. In fact I only see a less protected position in future years as enthusiasm for the vaccine wears off over time.

Its also not the publics duty longer term to stay indoors to help the health service. Its not a moral duty and its not selfish to want to live normal land do things you enjoy.

That's it. I don't expect experts to be perfect or infallible, but just that they're a lot better than non-experts.

Quitd mad, lads on here were saying no more then a couple of weeks ago the virus was endemic and they wouldn’t be wearing masks as they were following the science, that hasn’t aged really. A little information is a dangerous thing at times.

If they announce a lockdown they should be transparent and admit it's going to be at least 8 weeks long.

A 2 week circuit breaker! Hahaha.

The Irish government's boner for restrictions continues, restrictions announced yesterday because of omicron is a complete and utter joke, all information coming from places where omicron is causing infections are reporting low hospitalisations from it. Case numbers are high but with 420 people in hospital with covid in the entire country 0.007% of the population are in hospital with covid and restrictions are being introduced. Utter bellends.
