Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Just started second week of isolation. Walked up to the postbox (100 yards) next door neighbour shouted that he can get me a bell to ring if I venture out. Beautiful spring day here in Berkshire. Might go out for a drive this afternoon and find out what sort of an area we live in!

....you won’t need me to tell you that you’re in a very vulnerable age category and I suspect the virus is more prevalent in the South East. Take care, stay in your car if you go for a drive.

Take your soap box elsewhere mate and leave the politics out of it.

There`s a time and a place and this isn`t it.

As soon as the buffoon gave this interview, two weeks ago, he made it political, dangerously political. Johnson's 'take it on the chin, take all in one go, allow the disease as it were to move through the population (herd immunity) without taking draconian measures'. 6.00 - 7.00 including the 'NHS will have all the preparations, all the kit to get through it' (not true) followed by further lies about PPE getting into hospitals and care homes (Hancock). The Tories and their medical and scientific experts need to be held to account now. Johnson's jovial bonhomie just doesn't cut the mustard and is highly dangerous. They should be swept out of government today when the Coronavirus Bill is being debated in parliament today.

I wish all the twitter warriors taking pictures of busy places had the cajones to go confront these idiots instead of taking a picture 100 feet away and uploading it online for likes and retweets.

Hate the current generation of standing around taking pictures of everything - if you aint happy about it kin do something rather than being a snitch on the arl fella's rooting for bargains lol
They aren't listening to the government so why would they listen to some random person shouting at them.

A question I posed in another thread....

I’m a frontline worker, I don’t mind working and am happy to do more if needed. I understand the government saying if you’re company tells you not to come to work you are entitled to 80% of your wages. That’s great.
But as I’m having to carry on working I’m obviously putting myself at further risk of exposure to deliver an essential service. If I do eventually become unwell and have to go off sick then I will only receive SSP of £95 a week. How can that be right ? I’m not asking for any more for doing my job... I don’t expect that at all, I love my job and will continue as long as I can but I do feel annoyed that I won’t be financially protected if I become unwell.

Would be solved by a £300 - £400 Universal income (I thought £200 initially but it needs to be higher). Then frontline workers and the self employed wouldn't be down too much.

Edit. I'm a frontline worker who works part time supporting vulnerable and disabled adults and is due to retire in the summer. I've upped my hours and have put the retirement on hold.

Look, when this is all over there will be inquiries. The herd immunity thing could have been the right approach in different circumstances but far too much risk with it.

For now they're taking measures no government has had to in generations and also pumping in an unprecedented amount of money (and more of that will be needed).

I fully agree that we're having to take such measures and pump so much money in because of the cuts this mob have been making for the last 10 years, and using the over-expenditure before them to justify it.

For now we have to get through these next few months and hope that the deaths are kept down to as few as possible. It's still going to be in the thousands but if we can avoid it getting into the 30,40s... well it'll be a 'positive'.

From there there will have to be severe repercussions for all governments. Not just ours. None of them acted quickly enough.

Needs a separate thread then, rather than Citizen Smith and co mobilising the Tooting Popular Front to foist their political agendas on everyone else - both left and right.
Fully agree mate. There are already other threads, a scummy Tory one and Boris has his own.

Why can't people just use those and leave this one for information and to help those seeking reassurance and comfort. I honestly think that's not asking much

@Bruce Wayne has been lurking.
If you don't feel like posting Bruce, a quick "like" from you so we know you're OK would do the trick.

Thanks fellas. My wife generally has quite mild symptoms (thus far), and I don't have anything yet, so physically all is pretty good. Just had a break from the forum for my mental wellbeing as much as anything, as obviously suggesting sodomy with a parrot is not something one should wish on anyone. I hope everyone is doing well, and thanks again for checking in.
