Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Anyone else received a text from their GP? A few friends have received messages all along the same lines of “we first heard about this booster rollout at the same time as you-8pm last night. Don’t contact us unless it’s extremely urgent”.

All this talk about protecting the NHS to keep it functional. That ship has long sailed.

FWIW they’ve done this twice now - when the vaccination campaign for Pfizer changed from the then mandated dose to the then experimental one, that was delivered with so little notice that thousands of elderly / vulnerable people got their jab appointments cancelled. GPs were threatened with dire consequences if they honoured those appointments too.

If you’ve got it you’re meant to stay in the house and not see anyone aren’t you? Are they hinting at something sinister here or is it just a very poorly worded poster?

think message is: don't leave your place during the festive season unless you have to, hence 'like you've got it' bit, IMO

Masks are really nothing more than a plaster mate.

This new variant is airborne for longer than any of the others. Wearing a mask isn't gonna help much

The worry with lockdown is that they do it off case numbers alone, even hospitalisations... it'll all be too late by then anyway. I said a few weeks ago if they'd really have been worried they should have gone into snap lockdown. Now I think that's awful and it's not what I wanted but that would have been the only way to completely stop it. However, given how transmissible Omicron is, it's doubtful even lockdown would have solved much.

We really need, with this variant, to be determining how many people are needing serious care to react in terms of restrictions, but I do also think it's better to be safe than sorry in these early stages. But the data is there from South Africa and so far it is consistent and as promising as it could be given the circumstances in terms of serious illness.

They should also be instructing people to eat well, get plenty of exercise and fresh air and all that jazz, to keep healthy. Not just rely on vaccines.
I'm not sure if masks are nothing more than a plaster, I'm not really qualified to say otherwise but they seem to have some effect on spreading viral infections and not just covid, which is still a significant benefit as our healthcare system battles away.

I completely agree on how disappointing it is that the UK has solely relied on vaccines. As remarkable achievement as they are, not seeing any sort of move to change society towards healthier lifestyles seems like a big miss towards what could have been a long term improvement that aid healthcare needs among other things. I'm not aware of any new initiatives towards more active lifestyles, air conditioning or air flow improvements (most likely we actually have less regulations after leaving the EU), more responsible policies towards unwell employees being unable to take days off and of course if you are unwell wear a mask and don't put yourself in crowed situations.

Oh the government is useless, but you cant use that as a reason to believe everything is a conspiracy re covid

Whilst I dont believe in the conspiracies I do believe we simply dont know enough about the vaccines due to the length of time they have been around to be injecting people like crazy.

50's+ fair enough as the risk from COVID is high but do we really need a fully fit 25 year old given 3 jabs in the space of 6-9 months?

I've had adverse reaction to the jab, many have had Myocarditis/Pericarditis, some have died of blood clots, some have reported cases of Vasculitis/GCA (all medically recorded not hearsay) Guillain-Barré syndrome, strokes etc. and the best is you cant sue these companies if anything went wrong as they are emergency supplied.

All caution has been thrown out the window by governments ruled by politics and case numbers not science.

I don’t Neil, but more and more people are starting to think that “ things don’t add up “

You can’t really blame them with this government can you ?
You can mate, the government are hideous, but that doesn't excuse people thinking there is a global conspiracy involving the idea that the entire scientific community, healthcare community and media of the world are all involved to extend a pandemic that benefits very very very few people. Its low level thinking based entirely around them actually being affected by something horrible going on in the world for once, and not just seeing a headline of something happening in a far off country.

How many of these folk are brexit voting tories who are now crying fake media is also pretty staggering

This is all anecdotal

A strange take this - the people who’ve been wrong here are those who believed the government that vaccination alone would lead us out of this.

Lots of experts pointed out that it probably wouldn’t, that more varied measures would be required, that what we were doing would run the risk of exactly this sort of thing happening. Most importantly that we are on this for the long haul.

Yet now here we are, people who didn’t listen to experts the first time saying they won’t listen to them from now on, they’ll listen to the lockdown skeptics (even though they’ve been the wrongest people of all) instead.

I don't support lockdowns and if that's all a so called expert can suggest, then they aren't much of an expert. They have been way out on their predictions far too often so it's natural people are sceptical.

I am in the vast majority of people in this country. Pro-vaccine but anti-lockdown. Be nice if the media and government could start representing us properly and stop pandering to the extremes on both sides of the argument; i.e. lockdown fanatics or anti vaxxers.
