Wow my resting has always been nearer 60! Think I'd be worried if I hit 50
Yeah I have a naturally low heart rate, often drops into the 40s. I'm no means an athlete, but very active as well so that helps. I did have to go and see a specialist about it in 2016 mind as they were a bit concerned but the prognosis was there's no issue, just that my heart rate is pretty low.

That being said it's why when it shoots up really high very quickly (which it didn't do before COVID as I was the fittest I've ever been I say) it's a bit worrying. But I'll get back there I guess! lol

What sort of mitigation techniques have they been employing? Have they gone into full lockdown? Banned travel to/from? I’m just struggling to see what the UK government obviously seems to be seeing such that it now feels like another full nationwide lockdown is both imminent and a forgone conclusion.

Irresponsible headline from Sky News.

Two jabs offer little protection against Omicron - but booster makes vaccines at least 70% effective.

That's against symptomatic disease. There's no evidence two jabs offer 'little protection' against hospitalisation/death.
In fact all of the early (and it still is early) evidence suggests it is very, very effective against serious illness.

I mean compared to a lot of other European nations the UK is basically enjoying FREEDOM right now, mate.

At the current moment, I agree. I was just curious what SA had done such that their cases to peak in such a relative short time frame. If they fully locked everything down for a couple weeks, then I could see why the UK government might see that as a viable option. But as of now, the new variant hasn’t been causing widespread death or hospitalization, particularly in vaccinated people and it just seems odd that the government seem to be seriously contemplating shutting everything down till spring.

They need something to take the headlines away from the massive scandal they’re currently involved in. That’s really it.

I despise this government as much as the next person but that makes very little sense. If they end up in a third national lockdown because of their policy failures, that is vastly more of a scandal than the 2020 parties, the wallpaper, his bits on the side and dodgy contracts combined. They would only get him to resign, this would put him in prison

A lockdown would put him in prison? Right, bring on the lockdown.

Another good vid. @LinekersLegs I find this guy's videos on this new variant easy to follow.

We all have different ways we learn info and video unfortunately isn’t my preferred medium - might be a bit weird but I’ll happily read a 20 page paper including footnotes vs watch a 20 minute video lol

But thought he did a good job of explaining the data which was reputably sourced and especially liked his correction at the end.
