What sort of mitigation techniques have they been employing? Have they gone into full lockdown? Banned travel to/from? I’m just struggling to see what the UK government obviously seems to be seeing such that it now feels like another full nationwide lockdown is both imminent and a forgone conclusion.
No official new ones that I know of although presumably some of the more vulnerable people voluntarily became more cautious. Also their summer so not sure if schools/university are on holiday.
Ramaphosa has so far avoided implementing new social restrictions, keeping the country on level one alert, meaning public gatherings are restricted to 750 people indoors and 2,000 outdoors, while a curfew remains in place between midnight and 4am. Although the government has vowed to monitor infections and hospitalization rates closely, expectations are that any renewed measures would not be as severe as those introduced in December 2020, when the delta variant fueled a second wave of infections.

Irresponsible headline from Sky News.

Two jabs offer little protection against Omicron - but booster makes vaccines at least 70% effective.

That's against symptomatic disease. There's no evidence two jabs offer 'little protection' against hospitalisation/death.
Just said that word for word on 5 live news

I don't know tbh mate. I think I'm getting there. My resting heart rate is back at 50 now, after a few months of being up near 60...

Running I'm feeling loads better, I'm just not as fit as I was but that can come back. Interval training on the turbo bike is still pretty grim though in that my heart rate will shoot right up to 165-175 range, whereas before it'd be 160s with occasional 170.

haven't been able to get out on the bike much but it was sluggish a few weeks back, but not feeling any general fatigue...

I suppose we'll see if my booster changes that. But hopefully it's just a case of maintaining where I am atm fitness wise over winter and then once spring comes around I can really up it a bit more. there's just some times where I keep absolutely dropping out completely when exercising, like you go to having no energy so quickly and that is definitely something that's stuck around

Have had similar issues mate. Pre getting covid I was training for a marathon and resting heart rate c48-52. I'm miles off former fitness so have to just start back a week at a time.

Good luck and stick at it

A friend of mine has been getting heart palpitations. Where his heart rate suddenly sky rockets. He went the doctors and the doctor suggested that it's possibly been caused by covid. He had covid last year and the doctor said he's seen a lot of people with the same problems now occurring..

More irresponsible reporting IMO. The article, and especially the headline, make it seem as if it’s clear that the vaccines are useless against Omicron, yet there is really no breakdown of how sick the infected people were or if they had to be hospitalized.

Has anyone died or gone to hospital with this 'new variant'?

Still trying to reconcile how the Tories and the rest of the elite had numerous Christmas parties with no social distancing, mixing households, strangers and bubbles last year yet we all had to stay away from our families and friends, and not go to pubs, bars and restaurants to stay safe and protect ourselves?!?

How come they didn't have to protect themselves, and how can they be pissing themselves laughin about it a few days later?!

I'm not anti vax, pro vax anything, but believe people should have a choice - I would just like the truth, but we're getting further and further away from that it seems.

It's all about money at the end of the day - they don't give a fig about us.

Question for @LinekersLegs or @RAFUH, or anyone else with far more expertise on this that myself. Suppose a variant of COVID comes along that is more akin to the regular flu or common cold (not claiming that’s what Omicron is). What are the reasons why we wouldn’t want to let it infect as many people as possible and become the dominant strain? It seems like it would be common sense to me, but every time anyone seems to mention it, they kind of get shouted down and made out to be a monster for even suggesting it. Just curious what exactly I’m missing.
