Happens with Hep vaccination some people will have the two and have the immunity others will require 3. And even then immunity will not be reached, that's enough to stop doing some jobs in professional health care. Did anyway in the early 00s.
No I get that , rightly or wrongly the messaging from the media seemed to be across the board . Once you break it up it makes significantly more sense . The problem is poor reporting panders to those with agendas not just those asking questions .

No I’ve had my booster , its just about this omicron efficacy. I’m guessing its reporting issues but I’m struggle to Follow how it evades 2 but the booster provides 75% when we . I thought , were told about antibodies and ages etc so an across the board message seems confusing . Genuinely its probably me not understanding the message , if it is just me though then maybe the message isn’t as clear as it should be .
I’m confused. Probably been said before but as I understand it the ‘booster’ is just another vaccine, so a third jab. Why would two not work but a third suddenly provide 70%+ protection. Seems odd to me but what do I know ?‍♂️

Basically it seems to be a combination of the protection given by the original two doses waning (which they always were going to - thats why the booster campaign started months before this variant was discovered) and this variant being different to the types of COVID that the original vaccines were developed against.

Giving a third dose probably ramps up your protection to a high enough a level that it helps your immune system against the new variant whilst not giving full protection (even with 3 doses it seems less protective against this than the vaccines were against the strains they were developed against).

Ok this is maybe its about the messaging around the age groups, if I’d seen it broken down by reporting into age groups that’d of at least made more sense . I’m talking about the general media by the way .
Unfortunately it is all pretty confusing because you not only have the two different variants (Delta and Omicron) who seem to have different abilities to create reinfections (of both vaccinated and those with natural immunity) but you have the different age groups which have different risks profiles.

Add on that younger age groups, who usually make up the bulk of initial cases in a wave, have a different vaccine regime (2 or 3 Pfizer) vs older groups (2 AZ plus possibly an mRNA booster) and data is still very fluid so confidence in a lot of the data (especially severity) is low then it is a really challenging message to convey.

Edit add in that the vaccine efficiency that is usually quoted is against infection but the figure that most people are interested in is vs severe disease and you just have so many things you are juggling!

Oh you see I get that , but my point sort of was (in my head ) a 20 year old who got their second yesterday vs a 55 year old who got a booster last month .

I understand what you and @LinekersLegs are saying , I just meant the public messaging left me behind a little .

How you getting on mate? You still not 100%?

I don't know tbh mate. I think I'm getting there. My resting heart rate is back at 50 now, after a few months of being up near 60...

Running I'm feeling loads better, I'm just not as fit as I was but that can come back. Interval training on the turbo bike is still pretty grim though in that my heart rate will shoot right up to 165-175 range, whereas before it'd be 160s with occasional 170.

haven't been able to get out on the bike much but it was sluggish a few weeks back, but not feeling any general fatigue...

I suppose we'll see if my booster changes that. But hopefully it's just a case of maintaining where I am atm fitness wise over winter and then once spring comes around I can really up it a bit more. there's just some times where I keep absolutely dropping out completely when exercising, like you go to having no energy so quickly and that is definitely something that's stuck around

Wow my resting has always been nearer 60! Think I'd be worried if I hit 50

The public messaging has been woeful; for much of the year the success of the programme was put ahead of (and deployed to silence) any other suggestions almost.
