Fair question. But I would say that makes the person who comes up with the rules, a poor leader. Your own values and morality will determine which way you go. However saying that. It looks like, especially around Manchester, the majority are sacking this mask thing off.
Just returned from a quick trip to aldi. Forgot me burger buns yesterday. I didn't see one person with a mask on. Admittedly, it wasn't that busy. But still. Not one person, other than me. I have a stinking cold, so not inflicting that on others. But it got me thinking, if nobody else is bothering, why should I.

Because if no one bothers at all, we'd all be in the brown stuff.

My sister is a nurse, my wife is a physio, both work for the NHS and do their absolute best day in day out to set a good example. Luckily the majority of their friends are the same (the majority who are colleagues)

Hope your feeling better soon anyway mate and the PCR test you said you needed comes back negative

I ask this as an open ended question that after 18 months is a very valid one to ask.

Should we (I) be following the exact rules given to me considering the person (s) telling me to follow them isn't following them?

What actual value is in rules if the person who makes them up or any of the fellow people around them don't believe in them?

Before you get all sciencey with it, it's a philosophical question. If the person telling you to do something isn't doing it themselves then how can you trust the instruction to begin with?
Regarding masks in small shops i tend to put one on if the staff are wearing them in the supermarkets ill follow the rules im not that arsed about wearing a mask for 30 minutes or so.
As for following that idiots rules regarding meeting family last Christmas and only so many can meet i didn't take a gods bit of notice.

If that proves true, then any government implanting restrictions as tight as vaccinated contacts having to isolate needs to f right off
I worry the damage is already done in terms of fear. There's a LONG way to row back if it turns out to be a false alarm
I can see there being many who'll be scared of catching the new variant even if they're told it's not a problem

Just call those people science deniers and watch their heads fall off. All the scientists are saying the symptoms from this variant are milder than every other variant. I’ll choose to listen to them and not Fiona Bruce on BBC News.

What is potentially quite scary is that just as a starter, a mask policy back in place for the forseeable future is horribly out of place.

As soon as the country reached a point where the only people in hospital with covid were unvaccinated , we are bringing restrictions back , essentially for nothing if this variant is indeed better then the one we have.

I would hope in 2 weeks once they know the variant is weaker , the mask policy is removed there and then.

Otherwise we are dismissing the protection of the vaccine and the months of data we have in regards to that. Essentially , dismissing science on the what if , even after the what if has been solved. After all , if we know the vaccine works to the extent that nobody was getting seriously ill with it, why on earth do we need to be careful anymore?

Feel for the hospitality industry. Apparently large amounts of Christmas parties etc are being cancelled already.

An urgent cash injection from the government is needed to cover the lost revenue. We should not let these businesses suffer again.

Why are they being cancelled though? There is absolutely nothing to suggest the hospitality industry needs to shut down again. If that happens there will rightly be carnage.
