This website is pretty useful for comparing testing. Czech republic do a lot of testing compared to others in the EU. UK do a very high amount every week.

UK do a high amount but I’m not sure we do that many effective tests, as opposed to ramping the numbers up.

COVID cases hit records in Europe prompting booster shot rethink
Coronavirus infections broke records on Wednesday in parts of Europe, once again the epicentre of a pandemic which has prompted new curbs on movement and made health experts think again about booster vaccination shots.
"Available evidence emerging from Israel and the UK shows a significant increase in protection against infection and severe disease following a booster dose in all age groups in the short term," the ECDC said in a report published on Wednesday.read more
Many EU countries have already begun giving booster doses to their populations but are using different criteria to make priorities and different intervals between the first shots and boosters.

I'm not sure why they would do a full lockdown other than to cowtow to antivaxxers as something like 85% of serious cases are among the unvaccinated.

It's hard to target more effectively than that.

I meant Germany- if they're having a big crisis based on similar covid ICU numbers, whether per population or absolute numbers, but we're not having as big a crisis, my first thought is their capacities over there with them having a bigger population

I think thats the thing with testing. All the figures are unreliable some countries count antigen testing/lateral flow, some countries only count PCR that’s why number of tests and positivity rates vary and are unreliable.
Over here an antigen/lateral flow test means nothing rightly or wrongly and our public health body are I think fair to say scathing of them and don’t trust them, though I think they have their uses and we under utilise them, if you test positive with one you just go for a PCR. But PCR is the only game in town here really, unless you want to reassure yourself before heading out.
Having said that we’re in crisis over here today, our testing system has basically shut down with demand. About an hour ago there where four appointments for a PCR test in the country - it’s gone bananas.
