Do you mean to say, even if we got firm grip of it as you put it, 2019 like life is gone forever? ???

Well I think we need to get on top of it medically wise mate, like I said with vaccines, boosters, other medication and our way of living whwn waves happen.

I don't see it completely disappearing so I can't see how we can just go back to normal 12 months of the year.

They have. Lockdowns will obviously work to prevent pure case numbers, but vaccines mean we don't have to lock down because the impact of cases on hospitalisations and deaths is severed.

Without vaccines, with the lives we're leading now, you'd be seeing incredible amounts of fatalities, completely overrun hospitals. The only alternative would be nigh on perpetual lockdown.

Yep, we've pretty much gone about our daily lives without an issue for about 6-7 months (in the UK)

The vaccines are doing/have done their job. The booster will do the same. That's just one part of it (albeit a massive part of it).

Immunity will build over the next few years which will reduce the impact. This winter and 2022 might not be great but you'd hope eventually things will get better. There are some tablets that are being approved which also massively improve outcomes.

Normality will eventually resume but it might be 2 or 3 years away. Saying that we'll probably all be in the metaverse by then..

We respectfully disagree on mandates but I won’t rehash that ground.

But on a wider point I unfortunately feel that staffing levels are going to be a problem whichever route you go. Some staff will leave if there are mandates, if you don’t have mandates and there are low vaccination rates then some staff will leave because they don’t want to work with unvaccinated co-workers and you’ll likely have higher rates of staff leaving because of illness. Also healthcare staff will generally reflect local communities attitudes and so those workplaces with low vaccination rates will probably have higher demand burdens during a covid wave so more burnout/stress on all.

Add in tragic losses like this

and I very much worry about staffing levels overall as a result of covid irrespective of mandates and don’t think anywhere is really gearing up enough to figure out how to recruit the numbers we’ll likely need.

We do disagree on the mandates mate, not that HSCP shouldne be vaccinated but more on the method of getting there, id encourage all HSCP to be vaccinated, i have three doses myself.

All you say is true, but my position would be you are treating the behavior here but not the root cause - that is far more likely to bring about the desired sustainable change. You would be far better of meeting with the unvaccinated and working with them to understand their concerns and try and bring them onside, rather then mandate something people are obviously concerned about. Mandates are an eye for an eye and a lazy way of dealing with problem, as Tuveys strategy suggests - let them work in McDonalds, cutting your nose of to spite your face, might mean that health service wont be able smell as we head into another acute year in the pandemic. Mandates just create resentment and polarisation. Are you more or likely to be Anti - Vax after being forced to take a vaccine you are concerned about - i think its safe to say more.

Yep, every day that passes they are coming up with new medicines and learning more about it.

We've made great strides from where we were this time last year @[Deleted Member] so stay positive, it's just a process that could take a while as we all adjust

As I understand it locally that is what healthcare departments have been doing in parallel with the healthcare mandates - arranging one on one sit downs with their staff to discuss concerns and arranging things like private injections in a prone position for those who are nervous of needles and worry they will faint etc. Fortunately our local health group had something like 90% vax rate even before all that (vaccines had long been required for other diseases to be hired so precedent was already set) and the deadline has now passed and 99% of staff are now vaxed.

But my main point was that I worry about staffing regardless of whether mandates are implemented, healthcare has been really, really rough during Covid.

One of the safeguards around providing informed consent is the use of coercion, if you loose employment or are materially deprived to be put under duress for medical intervention against your will, then that coercion - as I've already said.

Its duress to give informed consent - breach of human rights.

It's not coercion, it's a prerequisite of the job role. You know the way you can choose to be a doctor with all the preconditions that come with it - medical degree, wearing gloves, duty of care et al? You can also choose not to be a doctor if you don't want to meet those preconditions. You aren't being sacked or losing employment; you are choosing to no longer meet the requirements for the role. It'd be a human rights issue only if you were forced to be a doctor.

If you can't grasp this, I can't help you but oh my giddy aunt are you wrong on this!

To be honest, if those new Pfizer pills work to the level they claim they do (we shall see, similar claims were being made 12 months ago...) - it should be over once those go into mass production. Logistics need to be sorted of course but give them to people testing positive in the highest hospitalisation risk ages and that should be that in terms of risk to hospitals.

It won't be, because I very much doubt they're as good as claimed. But if they are, that should be our "way out" of even considering restrictions
