If every adult was vaccinated in the UK there would be almost zero chance of lockdown. Other countries like Israel, Portugal etc are different.

We might not even lockdown the way its going although I do think its possible in late December/January.
So 50 million out of 64 , given some of those 14 million are 18 and under.

That's a pretty high amount of population to justify not locking down again.

Plus there is no need to if the level of vaccinated people going into hospital doesn't rise (and subsequently render the vaccine useless).

Vaccine is the answer so we need to have normality even with some light restrictions during the winter as a safety net.

Just looking at some of the ICU numbers and capacity.

So the U.K. has 1772 Level 3 ICU beds and 999 Covid patients in them (U.K. also have 2k HDU Lvl 2 beds).

Ireland has 292 ICU beds, 117 Covid patients - 282 are occupied overall.

We went with regressive measures today, it’s really interesting seeing different countries tipping point to hitting the break or not.

Of course that’s a bit simplified, other variables come into, play in terms of informing decisions.

ICU bed capacity around Europe.

Interesting the U.K. and Ireland almost have exactly the same profile pro rata.

Portugal has the lowest figure of ICU/IMCU beds per 100k population in that chart, 4.2 compared to UK/Ireland 6.6/6.5 and mush lower than neighboring Spain.

Although I presume that some extra beds can be found during emergency conditions presumably that lack of a comparative cushion will be a factor in deciding any further measures.

If memory serves right mate they almost reached their ICU capacity last winter. I think at the moment they have one of the highest vaccine compliance rates, but would think they would have a wide eye on introducing restrictions and a very low threshold for doing it given their capacity.

You sparked me off on a bit of delve into the situation in Portugal mate.

Comparative vaccination status between Ireland and Portugal:

Case, Hospital, ICU and RIP trends.

With two of the best vaccine roll out in the world both Ireland & Portugal are following the same trend we are seeing around Europe, likely we will see increased restrictions in both countries over the winter, given ICU capacity.
