I have my doubts that the Government have the will go down the lockdown route, the last lockdown was a joke a lot people didn’t stick to it no reason to think that a future lockdown will be adhered to. for a lockdown to work schools have to be closed meaning someone has to be at home to mind the children, there will be riots on the streets if they do that again. I work in a School and I really hope it doesn't come to that again.
They might roll back the latest restrictions to be lifted such as pubs and night clubs.

Don’t think we will see a lock down till January mate, but I think their is a distinct possibility we may see one, think we will see restrictive measures before Xmas, first of which will be announced this week.

The big concern is the health service at the moment, the Mater already into surge capacity and capacity in narrowing by the day, its getting like a war zone again, we may need to act to intervene to keep to protect capacity. Don’t think the political is there for another lock down, just yet, Jan would be my bet.

Don’t see people rioting in the street to be honest, youl get a looney protest or two, but Irish people won’t riot, no chance. Civil disobedience yes, riot no. People, will tolerate it with in my opinion, risks are real in terms of the health service and capacity.

Boris saying we will wait and see what the JCVI say before vaccinating 5-12 year olds

We waited for them last time and they said don't do it and the country did it anyway so...............

Made me laugh reading about them now offering 2 doses of the jabs to 16-17 year olds instead of just the one:

"Concerns about the risk of heart inflammation, known as Myocarditis meant 16- and 17-year-olds were initially offered only one dose of a Covid vaccine.

But Dr Raine said the MHRA was "not detecting any increase in risk with the second dose" and young adults should now "come forward for their second dose".

LOL the studies all show its the 2nd MRNA jab that is when the majority of Myocarditis/Pericarditis instances happen.

These scientists and SAGE are starting to lose credibility.

It would be a tough sell to a public that have already had enough and with SF gaining popularity in the latest polls the government will be thinking of holding onto their jobs with any decisions they make, They'll go for an un vaccinated lockdown first like Austria.

Id be surprised if SF weren’t the next govt anyway, they more or less gaauenteed it in my opinion getting into bed with each other, an alternative will alway be sought or tried it’s just human nature, pandemic or no.

I don’t envy he Goverment, but restrictions are less politivally dakageing then a non functioning health system and that a real concern as the crow flies. Our problem isn’t even cases, we’re far better then most, our problem is we don’t have the hospital capacity, it’s a sad indictment on successive goverments. It’s Nov and we’re entering surge capacity.

I think you could be right, they may try alternatives first, I’m expecting new measures this week, that might see us to Xmas, but I believe we will repeat the mess we made of last Xmas this year too, so I’m expecting a tough Jan and Feb like last year - hopefully I’m wrong.

I think the introduction of level 5 in October caused the Christmas madness last year, when things opened up in mid December people just went all out.

Might be a grain of truth in that pal, but really I think it’s tradition, shoppping, crowds in town centres, office parties, meeting friends, commutes home, then over Xmas we’re unique in that we have a huge expat population abroad who in the main return for Xmas, the U.K. & USA reported the highest case numbers in the world today, in a months time we will be opening up thousands upon thousands of Irish coming home from these countries and others particularly in Europe seeding the virus throughout the country. That’s why I predict Jan and Feb to be a mess, we’re heading into it with our foot on the peddle. It’s Nov and there are 21 ICU beds left available in the country, something has to be done and measures will be escalated this week, racing certainty.

For me it’s telegraphed we haven’t learned anything from last year.

You’ll shut up, get your booster and you’ll like it

Anyone know what the latest is on waning immunity for the pfizer jab? I had mine pretty much bang on 4 months ago. Do I still have a pretty good level of protection against severe illness? Thinking of reducing my social activities in light of the all the media panic about the massive spike in cases but trying to consider if that's not a bit drastic for now.

Most detailed I’ve seen on Pfizer waning of antibodies over time was this from Israel (they had the 3 week gap between doses which isn’t as good for longer immunity)

However protection against severe disease still seems pretty good especially if you are not part of a vulnerable group.
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-59260294 (this is from UK with the longer spacing between 1st and 2nd jabs)
Graph: How much do vaccines cut hospitalisations? - showing effectiveness of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines in stopping hospitalisations in those ages 16+, by weeks after 2nd dose

Prof Adam Finn, from the University of Bristol and a government vaccine adviser, says: "We are seeing significant numbers of unvaccinated and vaccinated people coming into hospital."The protection you have against relatively mild infection wanes more quickly, but protection from getting into hospital or killing you wanes more slowly."

The greater risk of needing hospital care or even of dying is concentrated in the elderly. The overwhelming majority of deaths in people who have been double vaccinated have been among those over 70. People in that age group are still far better off than someone who they share a birthday with, but turned down the jab. And as you can see, the risks in younger age groups who have been double vaccinated are small.
