Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

This mentality is so wrong on so many levels it’s absurd.

What’s wrong you not confident in the vaccine you’ve had? You’re protected aren’t you? Unvaccinated people should offer little to no threat to you. If they do then what’s the point in pushing people to get vaccinated?
Even if the vaccine did absolutely nothing to slow the spread, unvaccinated people with COVID filling up all the hospitals still has a knock-on effect for the rest of us. As a result, fewer resources are available for routine treatments/advanced detection, wait times for quality-of-life procedures like joint replacements are increased, as well as fewer beds are available for easily survivable emergency situations like appendicitis or an injury from something like a car wreck.

Why do we have to explain this over and over again. Vaccines reduce the spread because the lower your chance of getting the virus in the first place. The fewer people that get it, the better.

They do not make someone completely immune to serious illness and death however. They just vastly reduce the likelihood.

The more unvaccinated people there are, the bigger the spread, the bigger the likelihood of people will end up with serious illness or death (including vaccinated people).
Not sure this is particularly ethical....
I agree
Also what about age groups 11-16 and under 11 and babies ? Should they be vaccinated ? And if parents decide as is their right that the vaccination presents a higher threat than COVID so don’t want the children jabbed Should the children be denied NHS access ?

It’s not about whether or not people choose to vaccinate or not. I understand that people will have their reasons etc.

But to say it doesn’t matter or it doesn’t affect others is nonsense and the thing that annoys me. Because the choice to vaccinate or not does impact others and evidence shows by a fair amount. Let’s at least be honest about that part of it and not deny something that can’t really be argued (without serious flaws in logic).

Why do I have to ask this question over and over again?? Where’s the evidence in this? Why all of a sudden again theirs panic setting in if the vaccines are effective? Over 50 mil vaccinated, what was it 40,000 new cases yesterday? Reports of the NHS under severe stress again Someone is lying somewhere. Please explain?

We cannot have restrictions every winter without destroying the economy and the fabric of society. It's completely irresponsible to still be relying on lockdown restrictions after approx. 20 months.

I believe that we have to trust the vaccines and get on with our lives. We cannot allow the normalisation of governments taking away personal freedoms. It actually scares me how many people are happy for this to become a permanent thing. Exceptional circumstances allowed for exceptional rules, but it shouldn't become the permanent position.

No vaccine or measure will ever give full protection. We don't live in a perfect world. But the vaccines are by far the best protection we have and we have to trust them. We cannot fully eradicate covid so we need long term plans, not short term moves where we rotate in and out of lockdown in perpetuity.

One of the things that really scares me, is not only the fact that some people seem really happy to have their freedoms taken away, but also the fact that they then view anyone who doesn`t agree with them as an "enemy of the people " . They`re just as bad as the anti vax mob, just in a different way.

It`s quite fascinating in a way, as you can see how being fed misinformation and with the right people feeding it to them, how quickly society can spiral out of control, on both sides.

Honestly, any more lockdowns and i think I'll go crazy. It's no way to live life.

Bingo

Do you think the vaccines do not have any effect whatsoever on whether someone catches the virus or not?
Ie do you believe efficacy is 0?

As an aside, why do people keep saying things like “fear mongering” when discussing what is actually going on?

If a thousand people plus a week (after periods when a thousand people a day) were losing their lives to terrorism, on the roads, at sea, after spraying themselves with perfume they’d found or after eating bacon rolls everyone would be demanding action.
It's the self fulfilling prophets, who are not keen on truth or responsibility for that matter. Do as we say not what we do.

There is way too much hysteria out there. No one wants more restrictions again and won't put up with them.
I know just put a mask on while it indoors, so simple, it's not about Shia law by the back door anything like that.

No mate I do think they offer some security but very little and not what we’re getting told, or we wouldn’t be in this position would we? That’s why my gripe about trying to force to people to get it is strong. In the near future people won’t be able to blame the unvaccinated because the numbers won’t add up.

I do wear a mask where supposed to. There are people clamouring for restrictions that are a lot more than just masks. They always want more restrictions.

These figures are a joke. I still don't understand why someone who gets the virus and gets over it but dies within 28 days by something totally different (say being knocked down by a car) then you are going on the stats as covid death.

I've no idea why the powers that be have been determined to boost statistics in this way.

So you do believe they have some effectiveness.
Even with an efficacy of 17% and a r0, by the fourth round of infections a vaccinated population would have only hsve the number of infections as an unvaccinated population.

that 1 person out of 6 makes a huge difference to the spread of the virus.

The press and media have got a lot to answer for.

They`re whipping it all up again. Terms like " Twindemic " terrifying the life out of the old and vulnerable.

If you go to Tesco, the great unmasked in there will kill you, if you go the pub, the unmasked drunks in there will kill you and the kids in the schools will bring it home and kill you.

Best thing for everyone is more lockdowns and get everyone locked indoors again.
