Next on their agenda, is Christmas shortages.

Expect an announcement of " possible " shortages of Turkeys, mince pies and stuffing any day soon, causing the idiot public start panic buying everything and anything.

Oh and Coronavirus will go away again lol
Just how many turkeys can you panic buy/eat?

lol

You can just imagine it,

Christmas dinner every day for weeks on end
In theory, but the way we're going, we'll be staggering Christmas dinner over two weeks to prevent energy peak demand, starting early in Scotland, 1200hrs on the 25th for Downing Street (if the useless lump's still around), and wrapping up a week later in Wales.

Is it right that Novavax is a more "typical" type of vaccine than the ones that have been released so far? By typical I mean more similar to vaccines currently on the market for other diseases in terms of what it's made of etc?
Don’t know tbh if it is closer to “typical“, will ask @RAFUH for clarification!

I did find this article helpful in describing the differences between the various ones
Novavax How it works: Unlike the mRNA and vector vaccines, this is a protein adjuvant (an adjuvant is an ingredient used to strengthen the immune response). While other vaccines trick the body’s cells into creating parts of the virus that can trigger the immune system, the Novavax vaccine takes a different approach. It contains the spike protein of the coronavirus itself, but formulated as a nanoparticle, which cannot cause disease. When the vaccine is injected, this stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies and T-cell immune responses.

How well it works: 90% effective against lab-confirmed, symptomatic infection and 100% against moderate and severe disease in Phase 3 trial results released in a company statement in June. The company says the vaccine was 91% protective of people in high-risk populations such as people older than 65, those with health conditions that increase risk of complication, and those in situations where they are frequently exposed to the virus.

How well it works on virus mutations: Novavax says the vaccine is 93% effective against “predominantly circulating variants of concern and variants of interest.” But it’s important to note that the study was conducted in the U.S. and Mexico, when Alpha was the predominant strain in the U.S., although other variants were on the rise. More data is needed to determine the effectiveness of Novavax against the Delta variant.

More typical than mRNA vaccines, I suppose, in that it is using an antigenic piece of the virus (which we started doing at least 50 years ago) to stimulate an immune response. However, the nanoparticle delivery is quite new technology.

AZ and J&J vaccines work similar to mRNA except they use another virus to deliver the codes to cells instead of mRNA.

Hospital figures - 24 deaths were announced today, no data to compare to from yesterday but it is down 9 on last Monday. 12 deaths were in English hospitals, again nothing to compare to from yesterday but it is down 1 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 90

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 28 deaths were announced today, down 10 on yesterday and down 5 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 111

For the 60 day cut off, 35 deaths were announced today, down 9 on yesterday and the exact same total as last Monday. The 7 day rolling average remains the same at 136.71

Just seen that around 20% of hospitalisations are pregnant women.

This is mainly due to anti vax incorrect narrative that vaccines are dangerous during pregnancy. The government should target this group by bringing out information or news campaigns that shows vaccines are safe.

A friend of mine (who isn't an anti-vaxxer, and is otherwise a rational person) says she isn't getting vaccinated until after her baby is born, she's four months' pregnant now. A bit concerning.

So, 45% less effective that the vaccine. Im sure they’ll be happy to eat these like candy, but in all seriousness, how much more do they know about this not-even-EUA-approved drug that the fully cleared vaccine?
I get what you’re saying but it’s still great news. If we can cut hospitalizations by even 25% as a result of a pill, it’s a massive win. I’m gonna stay positive with this one.
