Hang on, think for yourself isn't the same as thinking about yourself. There's a pretty significant difference.

You make your own decisions. Now, people should make those decisions based on loads of factors, including other people.

Like @Tubey said earlier, you don't go around punching people because it's not a nice thing to do.

So no, my way of thinking is in no way why people have guns in America, you've just completely misunderstood the point.

I've said repeatedly I'll still wear masks in crowded spaces, not because I need to be told to, but because I'm not an arsehole.

People shouldn't need the government to legally mandate them not to be awful, except in an emergency. The problem now is the definition of what constitutes an emergency - all the government has done is draw a reasonable line in the sand on this.

I think the government should keep masks as mandatory for the time being. However, we will have this issue whenever masks stop being mandatory - whether it's next week or next year. It's ultimately going to be up to people to choose what to do.

Loads of travel/rail/bus companies have said they will want folk wearing a mask. Not a clue if they can enforce it mind, but its a good stance to take imo.

I haven’t misunderstood anything. This isn’t one of those things where personal responsibility is important. Because one persons behaviour affects another. You might decide to wear a seat belt and that’s on you. You decide to drink and drive though and you are putting others in danger.
That man is taking personal responsibility by saying he’s not going to Waterstones because he doesn’t feel safe and you are seemingly having a go at him for it.
There are certain things where personal responsibility Is irrelevant. Ban guns and everyone is safer. Personal choice and responsibility is irrelevant.

100%.

Private businesses can do as they please and in the case of Metrolink etc then they're run by each City's council/mayor and it seems a lot are still enforcing it.

All for it and as i keep saying would personally keep them mandatory for longer but, I also see the point that they're going to have to stop being mandatory at some point in time too.

I'm not having a go at him for that, I'm having a go at the thousands of wet wipe weirdos with hipster beards on social media who want governments - or in this stage, book shops - to do exactly what they say.

Personal responsibility is never irrelevant. It's illegal to drink and drive, but what stops people from drinking and driving isn't that it's illegal, it's that they take the responsibility not to do an illegal thing.

I'm completely baffled how you've taken me saying people will at some point have to make their own decisions on this as meaning the same thing as people not taking the safety of others into account.

Amazed you've already responded; personally I haven't stopped laughing yet.

It’s not just about thinking for yourself though is it? It’s thinking about others.

And I don’t think it’s completely extreme to want a safer environment during a pandemic.

Your way of thinking is why everyone has guns in America.

The absolute arse wipe, could always shop elsewhere ?

My missus went back to the Covid ward today that she was redeployed on at Whiston back in January while she was at the hospital doing audits. There are 30 on the ward today (compared with 300 at the peak), but the majority are double jabbed. She said they’re not I’ll enough to go to ITU but still a concern that if it’s allowed to spread unchecked these wards could soon fill up.

There are ‘only’ 2 on ventilators thankfully, both young people who’ve not yet had the vaccine.

He could just order online at Waterstones instead of helping a company such as Amazon.

I've not been using Amazon for the whole pandemic and a bit before that and it's well easy one you get into the habit.

Sometimes I get something from eBay and it seems to get delivered in an Amazon package by Amazon delivery though, not idea what's going on there.

Which is exactly what he’s saying he’s going to do?

You do realise that once legal mandation of mask wearing ends, it will be in all likelihood actually illegal for any physical shop to discriminate access based on mask wearing?

What Waterstones is doing with that tweet is actually the most they can legally do. That man will have to bar the doors and never leave his home.

I wasn't even really meaning to use it as anything but an example of what is wrong with the extreme side of that argument in the mask debate, same as the posts saying that Waterstones are awful for even 'encouraging' them now they aren't going to be mandatory. That's all. They're both completely stupid points. Just think for yourself - not about yourself - and consider the safety of others.

How dare you not pick a side and fight to the death to defend that side, regardless of logic and reason to the contrary. You monster.
