Is wearing a facemask really that much of a ball ache for people?

Can't imagine how some of you lot would have coped with rations

It isn't. I'm happy to wear one, but I don't have to wear one for a sustained amount of time.

But I used an example yesterday of someone who, in what might seem a small way for other people, was clearly affected by wearing one, because they have to wear one every day five days a week - if not more.

Not everybody is just mildly annoyed by them.

The point of Monday's change is that it becomes personal choice. Now I personally think that might be too early, but ultimately masks aren't going to be mandatory forever. They'll probably review what happens after July 19th and reintroduce them if needed – I don't know.

But people who insist governments should run every part of people's lives are as bad as the freaks who genuinely just don't want to wear a mask because they think Bill Gates is tracking them or whatever.

I agree with him, the whole point of wearing a mask is to help limit the spread if you have it, not to reduce the chances of someone passing it to you. That means you are doing your bit and someone else comes in and starts coughing and sneezing without one then where is the fairness in that?

Remember that some people have not been vaccinated due to possible issues with reactions. I think as per London, it should be mandatory on public transportation and go that bit further to say shops. Gigs/theatre/sports events/nightclubs/pubs can all go back to normal as you have a distinct choice whether to go to one or not. Shops and transportation you don't so much.

The point about the masks isn't the case here.

It's this bloke's INSISTENCE that Waterstones aren't doing enough. That they must make them MANDATORY. That the sky is falling in.

Waterstones have done exactly what they're entitled to do and exactly what should be done when the rules are lifted.

The point about the rules being lifted is entirely different - we can debate whether it's too early etc and that's fine, but it's a separate point.

Personal responsibility has to be a thing. People don't like thinking for themselves though, so it's easier to blame governments/book shops.

It’s not just about thinking for yourself though is it? It’s thinking about others.

And I don’t think it’s completely extreme to want a safer environment during a pandemic.

Your way of thinking is why everyone has guns in America.

Hang on, thinking for yourself isn't the same as thinking about yourself. There's a pretty significant difference.

You make your own decisions. Now, people should make those decisions based on loads of factors, including other people.

Like @Tubey said earlier, you don't go around punching people because it's not a nice thing to do.

So no, my way of thinking is in no way why people have guns in America, you've just completely misunderstood the point.

I think the government should keep masks as mandatory for the time being. However, we will have this issue whenever masks stop being mandatory - whether it's next week or next year. It's ultimately going to be up to people to choose what to do.
