Oh I wasn't trying to explain it away mate, it was in relation to the very specific point. I think the UK is experiencing another wave but equally there is no chance that Italy is only having 1300 cases.

And in the case that that was true, then Italy having the same deaths as the UK, despite much fewer cases, would be extremely strange.

So just think that has to be taken into context.

It takes a number of weeks for deaths to happen, best to check in a few weeks to see what happens.

A few weeks back Italy had numbers much higher than the UK for positive tests.

To be fair, every country has far more cases then positive tests. I've often said on here a better stat all together is the positivity rate % per number of tests its a better snapshot of what is in the community.

Italy i think are enjoying that brief window you guys had a month or six weeks ago, they have gone from high case numbers and deaths, to really suppressing there, its helped by a change in leader in the last few months, who has strong links to the EU also the EU vaccine tszar is Italian too and the EU has gone into turbo boost vaccine wise, i thi it overtook the US in the week.

Most of Europe is in that sweet honey moon space, the UK where in before this wave bit, but it will happen there to and cases will soar in the next few weeks, its inievetible unfortunately now its so widespread in the UK, its already happening here Spain and Portugal - its just a matter of time really. All that matters now is in shots in arms, you can forget about 1 dose, 2 doses is the only show in town, every hour, day, week of suppression is vitally important, its why the UK public health policy is bananas and to be fair the Eu isn't far behind - many governments are sticking their heads in the sands for the economic and political benefit, or maybe worse again willing to take on the collateral loss consciously for the same gains. Small mercy is we have the vaccines as another arm of protection now, imagine we didnt and this wave hit, but its a race against time now. - attack and defend of this wave, attack - Attack: get vaccines in arms - double dosed and Defend: continue with suppression, every hour and day is vital.

Its not about what the Uk or EU are doing really we are all symbiotic, the UK was ground zero for Alpha and Delta, if it happens in one place - it will happen everywhere, its why responsible public health policy is so important, i'm really against the UK's in this instance, i think its bananas. All that said, a new variant could spring up anywhere, we could have an Italian or French variant and the same thing would apply.

Looks like Europe is looking to big increases in infections in the coming weeks.

Yeah and i think in a few weeks' time Italy might have more again (as we see Delta become prominent in Europe - though it'd be nice if it didn't!)

But I really can't see there only being 1300 positive cases in a country of Italy's size mate. Not saying there's 30k or anything, but no chance it's that low.

I just think we're at the time in it where we can't keep hiding away though.

The vaccines are doing their job. Boosters are on the way for vulnerable groups. Massive onus has to be on getting people fully dosed - I really agree with that, but they are very much trying. The vaccine roll out is the only thing keeping the deaths down atm, that much is clear. But if we hang on any longer it's going to be another 12 months' time and ultimately it's just not feasible.

Talk - strong talk - that there's going to be vaccine/covid passports for all hospitality and entertainment come the autumn. Either have to have evidence of two jabs or a negative test within 48 hours to be able to do anything, basically. It's crap and controlling but ultimately it's what they're going to do. And it's probably the best way to 'force' people to get the vaccine without actually 'forcing' them.

Long-term complications after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are common in hospitalized patients, but the spectrum of symptoms in milder cases needs further investigation. We conducted a long-term follow-up in a prospective cohort study of 312 patients—247 home-isolated and 65 hospitalized—comprising 82% of total cases in Bergen during the first pandemic wave in Norway.

At 6 months, 61% (189/312) of all patients had persistent symptoms, which were independently associated with severity of initial illness, increased convalescent antibody titers and pre-existing chronic lung disease. We found that 52% (32/61) of home-isolated young adults, aged 16–30 years, had symptoms at 6 months, including loss of taste and/or smell (28%, 17/61), fatigue (21%, 13/61), dyspnea (13%, 8/61), impaired concentration (13%, 8/61) and memory problems (11%, 7/61).

Our findings that young, home-isolated adults with mild COVID-19 are at risk of long-lasting dyspnea and cognitive symptoms highlight the importance of infection control measures, such as vaccination.

Sadly looks like we'll all be the leper generation with future generations likely born with Covid antibodies if Covid itseld hasn't diluted itself by then.

My honest opinion mate, its one off the worst times you could pick to open up, but i get people are annoyed. Particularly in the UK, i dont think the government and media did the general public or their mind set any good bigging the vaccine roll out and the end was in sight, the general narrative on here is that this "is over". Its fueled things like freedom day and the government has made some poor choices from a public health point of view, because its effectively painted itself into a corner by the afore mentioned.

I still think their is a bit of denial going on to be honest, in regard to be being in the midst of a wave, its a different wave and vaccines are helping, but still massive risks out there. Im not against learning and empowering personal freedoms, but i think there has to be a fair balance, with suppression in mind, i dont think the push for everywhere opening up like normal, is the right way to go, some things sure, and mitigate, but everything no - never mind ending social distancing, masks etc, its quite mad and concerning.

Figures going up in France too. 60% of new cases are with the delta version.
The greater Paris area( Isle de France) and the côté d'Azur (SE France) are the areas mainly responsible for the increase figures.
Both huge tourist regions of course.

That sucks. Whats the Vax story there? I saw some slide ages ago showing the French are pretty anti jabs.
