Its mad this. For weeks, if not months, my area has been a virgin White on the covid maps. Less than 3.

The last 2 weeks its gone dark blue, due to the cases per 100,000 being alarming, buts its still like 40 cases in a week.

0 deaths.
1 hospital admission.

UK still testing over a million a day.

Duno what to make of it.
Lots of testing picking up more cases - clear inconsistencies both ways with testing. A lot of the increase in hospital admissions are still limited to certain areas and certain age groups.

The idea it's all spiralling out of control enough to stop everything on the reopening process doesn't stand up to me, though obviously there is a risk involved in that. I get that some people don't think the risk is worth it.

Hospital figures - 25 deaths were announced today, up 3 on yesterday and the exact same total as last Friday. 20 deaths were in English hospitals, up 3 on yesterday and up 1 on last week. The 7 day rolling average remains the same at 21.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 29 deaths were announced today, down 6 on yesterday and up 2 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 25.14

For the 60 day cut off, 38 deaths were announced today, down 3 on yesterday and up 4 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 31.14

vaccines and Italy not testing as much as the UK

No country in Europe is coming close to how many tests the UK are doing on a daily basis.

That skews the numbers both ways.

There'll be many more than 1,390 new cases in Italy.
Vax wise Italy's doing alright.

Is it any good to be overtesting like UK does?

Not saying they're not but there's a difference between them.

UK at 119.5 doses administered per 100, Italy at 91.7. (https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-vacci...cumulative=1&doses=total&populationAdjusted=1)

The populations are relatively similar and the latest concrete figure I can find for Italy doses administered is 55mil.

UK are at 79.8m.

It's a fair difference.

On the testing, I really don't know. It's causing, and will continue to cause, lots of disruption. It's just all got to be taken into context.

Had the 2nd shot today

Case numbers beginning to rise over here, they put delta variant at around 70% of all new infections. It was elow 10% about 2-3 weeks ago.

Very slight increase in hospitalisations and ICU numbers but may not be cause and effect, too early to tell.

To be fair to the Irish government they are going flat out to get every adult vaccinated by end of August.

Seen multiple reports of ambulances having to wait with patients inside them as no room in A&E and generally heavy demand

Some interesting points there. Having a system thats been at 100% capacity for 10 years and then having a pandemic which results in cancer etc being much more problematic.

Whats odd is USA is completely open but as far as I can tell nobody is shouting for restrictions there. Delta has spread less in a lot of states (tory failure again).

I genuinely believe the NW will start to slow soon and deaths haven't been that bad in the third wave. Hopefully the rest of the country will be similar.

Isn't the lockdown still in place in Ireland?

Can pubs and cinemas etc open then? Surely indoor dining is the same as a pub.
Pubs have been serving "takeaway" for months. Any pub where you can stick a table and chair outside has been open. They cant have people inside.

Cinema's still closed I think. Sports venues still pretty limited although 16k allowed at so.e upcoming gaa finals.

All restaurants are open for indoor on the 26th July for fully vaccinated.

The testing is irrelevant mate, the rate of testing is the same as when there were 100 cases, it’s not a reason for the high incidence, it’s a wave of infection.

There is also big question marks on the quality of the U.K. tests and also method comparable to other countries. A real case of quantity over quality.
