A German national who flew into Shanghai last month said that he had been sent to a hospital isolation room for three days because he tested positive for antibodies, which he attributed to taking a second vaccine dose 16 days earlier.

Nurses took his blood twice a day and performed six throat swabs, four nasal swabs and two anal swabs daily, said the German, who insisted on anonymity to avoid offending the authorities. The hospital room had no towels, no toilet paper and no television, and the bed was a steel plate with a thin mat, he said. The German said that, after consistently testing negative for the virus, he was allowed to spend the remaining 11 days of isolation in a government-supervised quarantine center.

Cruising in the US is a lot different to cruising in Britain. I've been to the Caribbean quite a few times and the American boats have a real mix of clientele. All mix of ages and lots of young groups of lads and girls. But the UK is still very much dominated by the older generation and I know for a fact that most of these would stop cruising if there wasn't a strict vaccine regime in place.

I guess it's probably different in the US where there are different attitudes to the vaccination programme and a lot more younger groups involved. But they'll soon change their tune when ports stop accepting them as you say.

As I said, allowing unvaccinated passengers on board a cruise liner is utter madness.

I've wondered about this.

We don't know the impact of social distancing measures on immune systems.

Pre-covid, my kid would basically have some sort of mild cold all the time (he was in reception). He has had the odd runny nose during this but nowhere near the same frequency.

I'm not against postponing the full opening (a couple of weeks to get more vaccines administered) if the increased cases leads to more deaths but if not then we should press on. The 7 day death average from covid is 9 (all deaths that recorded a positive test within 28 days).

Just watching Hancock being grilled on lessons learnt. A couple of key lessons...

Lesson 1 We were too late to lockdown in March 2020.
Lesson 2 We were too slow to react to Kent variant.

Would be very careless to have-

Lesson 3 We failed to recognise the threat of Delta and opened up too quickly.

as it would indicate that they never learn.

There really is a massive chasm between those who actually enjoy life and want to carry on living it, whatever it is they like to do, and those who do not and just want everyone to be kept inside for eternity. Funnily enough, the latter types are the ones who say that the vaccines are only 10% effective.

Who's keeping everybody inside?!

...The reality is, that at the moment, we`re no better off than we were around this time last year.
I`m not even going to start on the travel situation, where the new pariahs are the " reckless, selfish " people that endanger us all by going abroad !!!!!
Like the couple in Melbourne, who, while under lockdown, decided they were having the holiday they booked...and were probably going to by plane...drove 2,200kms the long inland way round on minor roads to the sunshine coast and spent a week there then felt sick. Potentially infecting every small town and business they stopped at.
Do you mean that sort of reckless and selfish or another kind.

Signing in to places when you're sitting outside miles away from other people doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I wouldn't be pleased isolating for 10 days because someone 100m away in a pub garden had covid. Having to isolate for 10 days when you've had 2 doses of vaccine is also a joke.
Some sympathy for that view.
