Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

No I didn't. I said there'd be a rise in infections. There was.
But we've heard this government and the media tell all those people that they are vaccinated 90% + or whatever after one dose...and we can see evidence of over-80s acting on that and inviting people in and meeting up.

The messaging is appallingly bad.

Given that - and as @roydo points out how near we are to Easter - why press the unlock button for thousands of schools?

It's a catastrophe in the making, after all of us have been through.

You cant support that timing.

You did say it would be a catastrophe. Which it wasn’t.

Tbf though I have said all along that we need to do everything we can to avoid a winter lockdown and ensure people are protected. I think the difference between you and most others is the confidence the vaccine will do the job. Or enough of a job combined with some measures/restrictions. You just don’t seem to have any confidence at all in them.

Right.

So you’re agreeing I was factually correct with the post you quoted and proceeded to say was wrong.

You’re a silly sausage.
Lol.

No. Go back and read my reply to you.

I stated: "Claiming any upturn in 2019 cant deny the historic trend."

Your problem, I find, is that you dont read with precision. You see what you want to see - though you're not alone in that on here...so take comfort from that, I suppose.

That's a reason for risking another deadly surge?

The fact of the matter is that most places can do outdoor business. If they cant then they haven't adapted to survive...I'm reliably informed that's the nature of business: they evolve and adapt to the changing conditions...or they go to the wall.

Remember when you were preaching that lockdown was about the country coming together as one, community spirit I think you referenced.

Now its adapt to survive.

Mask is slipping Dave.

But your reply to me was an irrelevance.

I wasn’t talking to you. Believe it or not the thread doesn’t revolve around you despite the amount of time you spend posting in it.

You quoted a factually correct post I made and went off on one telling me It was wrong by posting about things I hadn’t even mentioned. Nowhere did I say anything about there not being long term decline of pubs.

Very strange behaviour.

The real difference, is that he " refuses " to have any confidence in the vaccines, as he wants the country to remain under quasi state control, due to his warped political ideology and this requires the virus to remain in circulation.

Witness his relentless denigration and pathetic attempts at putting people off taking the AZ vaccine - gnats piss, disaster vaccine blah , blah.

The simple truth is that he doesn`t really want the virus to ever go away, as once it`s gone, that`s an end of the state controlling our lives.

It is a catastrophe in the making - schools, hospitality, foreign holidays etec etc. If this goes ahead like last year we'll see a similar result in infections. Let's hope there isn't the same level of fatalities.

Ha ha ha.

No, you never do...you just make reference to a point that I made without directly challenging it.

In any case, you were wrong. Again.

Are you posting cryptically? Because I dont get it.

So, there wasn’t an increase in pubs in 2019 ?
There was a small rise for bistro type pubs, but a continued shake out of the traditional public house sector...and the trend (which was my point afterall) is a decline for well over a decade.

@peteblue - will you bring some sanity here - you are in the sector. Can you inform this young man of the decline, as he seems to be closed to me.

Thanks.

The sector, traditional wet pubs, has been in decline for years. Slow decline, but nevertheless.

3 pubs of varying business models have gone near me, all covid linked. One had converted itself into a wedding venue, with an attached pub, so that didnt last long. Another just hasnt reopened, and a 3rd was purchased by new owners late Jan, last year, who packed it in pretty quick as well. Again, they had planned a big spend to upgrade and alter the model.

Less chance of that now than last year, but there could be a mini wave.
14(?) months ago, I saw a graph projecting 5 decreasing waves, but that was in a 'perfect scenario' without politicians...and general member of the public idiots...acting daft.
