Whatever mate. It's called cautious-realism based on the last 15 months of human catastrophe.
Only a Pollyanna would think otherwise and be advocating any other way forward than I'm doing.

To say lock down ended weeks ago is to ignore the way the areas of concern will ramp up after May 17th and after 21st June. You cant test that. We are in uncharted territory at the end of the summer going into autumn. There are lightweight and pretty non event safety proceedures in play now, and have been for a while now. The lab folk are testing and testing and then double checking data from around the country to evaluate what they reckoned/hoped would happen, is.
So far, so good. Lockdown ended ages ago, schools have been back for what, 6 or 8 weeks, (including Easter), zippo meaningful issues there, with millions of tests being done every day to keep tabs on infections, and types of infections.

This is as good as it gets with the rate of infection right now with no indoor events. That will end after the indoor hospitality starts up and holidays happen and music events indoors start up. The infection from that can be tolerated to a certain level by the NHS and I wouldn't expect (as per last summer) fatalities to be a major issue. But the vaccines will then need to really show what they can do in the months after the summer.
This time last year and through summer we had no UK Virus. The world has gone through hell with it. Another VOC capable of breaking through the vaccine is far from impossible.I agree with some of your notes of caution on opening fully up although some of that can be addressed by effective monitoring and keeping a few of the easier NPI like indoor masks for a bit.
However we’ll have to agree to disagree on the bolded bit - all the evidence I’ve seen so far is that full vaccination is incredibly effective against both the original strain and the current variants. Could that change with new variants, yes, hence as @tsubaki notes we need to ensure we have good systems in place to quickly identify any problems and we’ll probably need a vaccine boosters strategy for the autumn/winter.

Come winter (flu season) it will come back no doubt, or maybe this year the flu will magically re appear, must have been on a sabbatical this year. You said that there'd be a massive surge when schools reopened - there wasn't, despite mass testing.
You said there'd be a massive serge after April 12th. Well, nearly 3 weeks later and nothing yet.
Now you're saying the same about May 17th.
We know there's a long, long way to go. And I'm sure you're right that come the winter there'll probably be some form of restrictions (large indoor events may have to go from November through to Feb or something which would be crap but probably realistic to expect).
But as it stands, things are looking bright. One step at a time.
The thought of 000s of people enjoying themselves must be keeping you up at night.I posted about this earlier today.
Liverpool: what a sad sight to see. Led by corrupt politicians who service the spiv economy they created, and populated by a growing number of scabs.
"Please Boris, we'll carry out any test events for you".
Liverpool: Rebel City. Do me a 'kin favour.
