Yeah, 127,000 people dead - I want to be carefuil we lsoe no more people than can be avoided; you want to enable millions to get bladdered and stuff pasties in their faces indoors in bars and restaurants for hours on end feeding a virus and risk it all...and I"M the mad one.

No wonder you support Johnson.

Txt book, resorting to the default position of calling people a Tory lol

Disaster Vaccine 1 - Comrade Dave 0.

Pooled testing, either at a family or business level, could be a useful strategy

You’d still be awfully reliant on people doing the right thing there though - even if you could get regular tests, one imagines the last person / people in the household who’d get tested would be the people who go out to work.

I think you’d get much better results from people actually attending the household, giving advice and speaking to all parties. Obviously if the household had its own testing kits then that would be great though.

Beginning to get some home testing kits here in California - still too pricey to use regularly but presumably the cost will come down as volume picks up and production processes streamlined.

Obviously no vaccine is 100% but large portions of the US have both a) relatively high case numbers b) are a long way from UK lockdown restrictions and have been for months (eg Florida or Texas) yet vaccine breakthrough seems very rare, especially one that leads to severe illness/death.
As of April 20, 2021, more than 87 million people in the United States had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. During the same time, CDC received reports of vaccine breakthrough infections from 45 U.S. states and territories.

Total number of vaccine breakthrough infections reported to CDC
Total number of vaccine breakthrough infections reported to CDC7,157
Females4,580 (64%)
People aged ≥60 years3,265 (46%)
Asymptomatic infections2,078 (31%)
Hospitalizations*498 (7%)
Deaths†88 (1%)
*167 (34%) of the 498 hospitalizations were reported as asymptomatic or not related to COVID-19.
†11 (13%) of the 88 fatal cases were reported as asymptomatic or not related to COVID-19.
A combination of lockdowns + vaccine + better weather + a less densely populated nation than here will have a huge effect on lowering infection there.

I think we need to be dialling down the claims for the vaccines and how much they will release us from this stranglehold. They certainly cant do the job themselves, and (as you can see on here) there's more than enough people determined to use any OTT claims for them to spin them as a panacea so they can do whatever they please and not remain disciplined.

The vaccines will help, but we are in our infancy with this and we need to have maximum caution. We certainly cant afford a full opening up of society and the economy...though that seems to be the route being taken on both sides of the Atlantic.

There's hope for the future based on the correct appliance of the science...then there's stupidity.

I’ve always voted labour, but if I had to decide who to follow based on @peteblue or @davek posts then I am a Tory. The bitterness is ridiculous

He`s genuinely fuming that people are getting their lives back.

It`s bizarre and also quite disturbing in equal measure.

He`d be much happier, living in North Korea or his beloved CCP.

^^^ These are two of the worst goads I've seen in 13 years of posting on GOT.

Take a bow.

We currently have 10 testing kits here, my daughter brought them home from work.

She didn't steal them, she was given them.

Because they are vaccinated and still in a lockdown mode for the most part.

There are lightweight and pretty non event safety proceedures in play now, and have been for a while now. The lab folk are testing and testing and then double checking data from around the country to evaluate what they reckoned/hoped would happen, is.

So far, so good. Lockdown ended ages ago, schools have been back for what, 6 or 8 weeks, (including Easter), zippo meaningful issues there, with millions of tests being done every day to keep tabs on infections, and types of infections.

Quite surprised they are not free for anyone who wants one in the USA. Basically nobody pays for tests in the UK. Only time you pay in the UK is for tests to go abroad I believe.

Highly doubt many people would pay here though, it might be a different mindset.
