My brother may have had it wrong. God knows they've been filling his head with all sorts of stuff since he was diagnosed with leukemia 15 months ago, and a lot of the time he's been on his own with the consultants because of covid. I know when my missus was diagnosed with breast cancer she was such a wreck that she didn't take in any of what the surgeon was telling her. But it's not the sort of thing he'd pick up on unless it was actually mentioned.

But yeah, up until he said this to me a few weeks ago I always thought that most vaccines didn't actually work with the live virus, if that's what a live vaccine even means.

I think once everybody is vaccinated, we need to stop with all this daily stats business being announced and reported on. We're going to have to live with this thing, the same as we do with flu, cancer, heart disease, and dementia. But we don't tell people how many died of those illnesses on a daily basis.

The vaccine and boosters will help keep hospitalisation and deaths down. So even if there is an increase in infections the situation hopefully won't be any worse than a bad flu season, and maybe some sort of temporary social distancing measures can help with this during the worst times.

But we need to get away from his daily reporting lark, and I'd start once everybody has had their first jab.

Yes, it is only contributing to anxiety in my opinion.

Sadly, the only statistic that will count in a post mass-vaccination scenario are deaths and serious illness.

Those that want daily numbers will be able to dig them out, there is an infinite supply of them, but they shouldn't be routinely reported in the media.

In the unfortunate event of another wave or upsurge, then this sort of reporting could be turned on again, it would have some informative value then.

The vaccines aren't a panacea. How many times does that need repeating?

Control is not the same as stop. If we see massive vaccination programmes globally then variants wont occur in such greater numbers.

So vaccinating is a really good thing now.

Incredible numbers and statistics coming out of Israel. @davek won't be happy with the numbers at all.

He'll explain in great detail why all of the numbers are completely wrong and the scientists don't have a scooby doo on what they are taking about. Then two days later he will say the exact opposite.
It is a good read though to be fair to him.

I see there's been an effort to have a global pandemic vaccine treaty to sort out the menace vaccine nationalism poses. Although most world leaders signed, Ursula von der Leyen when given the opprtunity (predictably) refused perhaps signaling an even tougher EU stance

I believe both the USA & China haven't signed either.
Hardly a global effort without them doing it unfortunately.

I suppose it might be another indication of a possible split after her recent hard stance on vaccines was voted down by other EU countries. Although some hardliners like Macron put their names to this there may be a split developing between the hardliners and the more sensible.

12hour shifts for as you say minimum wage, she never complains tho, she loves helping people.
