Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Seen that the daily mail have done an article about deaths not being covid. When there are over 120,000 deaths you're going to get some deaths that are incorrectly labelled as covid but what is the article trying to achieve? What they are doing seems dangerous to me and the media shouldn't be writing conspiracy theory type nonsense.

I have a family member who was classed as a covid death and it was definitely debatable but that type of article shouldn't be allowed.

why? if the stats aren't correct then it is absolutely right to be questioned.

This is a conversation I’ve had with the wife, I think the tag line “All deaths within 28 days of a positive test” makes people suspicious of the numbers.
Obviously with some older people it can be a problem. My family member hadn't had food or drink for almost 3 weeks before dying and was covid positive 4 days before dying but she was already in a very bad place.

I just don't think its helpful as it gives ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.

It’s pretty galling to me that Tory MPs are latching on to this as if its the biggest scandal of the current Covid crisis. Paul Bristow being an example.

Let’s not focus on the tens of thousands of totally avoidable deaths, as that would involve criticising Boris and the other clowns who we align ourselves to. Let’s attack the NHS instead and make a crisis out of death certificates.

Tough task no doubt, but Sunak's 'leveling with the public' will be another real pay cut for all public sector workers (those who have kept the country ticking over). Tax increases for everyone, but impacting the middle to lower classes disproportionately. The top 1% will be left practically unscathed no doubt. All this under the backdrop of brexit. It'll be another tory s*it show. Just so predictable.

Yep, places like DWP who’ve kept open throughout getting Universal Credit to people, or HMRC who’ve implemented a furlough scheme in very quick time to get cash to people will be hung out to dry under the new austerity measures. And people will lap it up.

His decisions on housing are absurd.

He’s going to extend the stamp duty holiday which helps non-first time buyers who are more well off. This has already made prices sky rocket.

Then he’s going to introduce an incentive for more 5% deposit mortgages. On houses up to 600k....

If you’re buying a 600k house with a 5% deposit, you are well off. You shouldn’t need deposit assistance. Banks won’t look at you unless your combined income with a partner is over £150k.

Meanwhile both of these things will continue to drive up house prices for those who are actually struggling to buy.

Germany’s Stiko about to announce a u turn on its AZ ruling. Will probably open it up also to over 65s
I wouldn't describe it as a 'u-turn', tbf.

If the initial decision was based on lack of data to persuade their regulators that they could be sure of its benefits for older groups, then that was them parking the situation until more data was provided. That's what's happened with the Scottish real world time results on older people, especially those over 80 with 2 shots.

Good governance. Basically, they waited for another nation to conduct a massive trial of the vaccine before committing to it.

Yes you're right, u turn was the wrong phrase.

Create a new thread? Any idea on the online tax - just for big players like Amazon, or is it going to get the small business too?

Somehow I don’t feel that your response would have been quite so generous and forgiving if this had been done by the U.K. government. I can only imagine the U turn claims, the claims of additional deaths caused by this failure to act, poor leadership, incompetent officials, Bananas, Murderers etc... Any nation outside of U.K. = always right, U.K. = always wrong.......
