Just as an aside, we’ve lost more civilians in this pandemic than we did in WW2.

The Yanks have lost around the same numbers of people in this as their entire death casualty figures from WW2, Korea and Vietnam combined.

So although it’s hyperbole, it’s not that far from reality.

And the Spanish flu killed more people than WW1.....

Yes lots of common side effects with both vaccines. The Pfizer one has a sore arm at the vaccination site which can become red, aches and pains all over at the joints and in the muscles, fever and headaches. My brother (a doctor in Newcastle) had the AZ one and had very similar to you.

It's important to note that although unpleasant and a little concerning they're not uncommon, with as many as one in ten experiencing such symptoms. They shouldn't be long lasting though but if they do persist then seek medical help.

Tbh they normally give you some printed sheets with common and slightly less common side effects listed. I hope you are now fully over it - it's well worth a bad day or two to get the protection it offers.
Due my first one on Thursday (think it’s Pfizer) and good to know this.

With the Derby win and Planning Permission imminent nothing will knock me off kilter too much this week ;)

Wouldn't be concerned at all tbh, I know lots of people who've had the Pfizer and most had either no symptoms or just a very sore arm, sore muscles and achey joints are also common. Most of the people I know are doctors and medics and therefore relatively younger with a stronger immune reaction.

While not a fixed rule so don't depend on it there is something that can be considered a rule of thumb guide.....generally the stronger the immune reaction, which usually means the less aged the patient, the stronger the likelihood of a short term reaction to the vaccination. The older patient's immune systems aren't usually as responsive or reactive and it can take longer for their bodies to respond.

Important to note that although you'll have some protection straight after the first jab it builds in the following weeks. You reach a reasonable level of immunity after 21 to 22 days and its likely to be maintained at strong levels afterwards. You can still get infected as immunity is not total but partial so carry on with precautions.

I felt fine for a couple of days after the jab and then on the third day it knocked me for six! Lasted about a day and then felt fine. Really aching, headache and tired but as I said it only lasted a day. Kind of comforting to know my body was reacting to it and responding as it should. I take immunosuppressants so my body reacting in this way is doubly comforting.

And that's trouble they picked one week of data that had the best results (as above) and pumped into the PR machine and happily gobbled up by internet experts as standard protection.

It's came from Scotland. Why would the Scottish government want to twist things to give good PR to Boris?

It's good news. I don't think there's any evidence whatsoever that it's propaganda. I'm not sure why anyone would want to get annoyed by news like this.

Because they are so categorically set in their ways that literally anything remotely positive about the current vaccine roll out must be dubbed as 'propaganda'.

It's a study - which is to be peer reviewed - that has taken place over the last month. They already had lab data for 3 weeks, now they've got real-world data for 4 weeks.

As you say, it's in no way a negative and if people are genuinely getting annoyed by this then they need to give their heads a wobble.

Whats the good news mate? Please tell me the golf courses are opening.

March 8th. Johnson will confirm that tonight.

I imagine in 2 balls, as they were last May.

Literally schools and golf from March 8th. I'm not convinced it's right to send the schools back all at once, feel like they could hold off on that and do it more staggered. Golf is completely safe. Only shame for me is that there's a lovely course near me that I'll no longer be able to walk around!

Scientists from the Universities of Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Aberdeen, Glasgow and St Andrews and Public Health Scotland (PHS) looked at data on people who had received either the Pfizer/BioNTech jab or the one developed by scientists at the University of Oxford with AstraZeneca.

Four weeks after receiving the initial dose, the Oxford jab appeared to reduce a person's risk of hospital admission by 94%.

Those who received the Pfizer jab had a reduction in risk of 85% between 28 and 34 days after the first dose.

Data for the two jabs combined showed that among people over the age of 80 - who are at high risk of severe disease - the reduction in risk of hospital admission was 81% four weeks after the first dose.

@ToffeeTim imagine thinking this was a negative :D
