Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I'm not. But right now it's the key step.

We have to have test, track and trace in place for when stuff opens up fully. I agree with that.

But the vaccine is already having an impact and now it's proven. The key to beating COVID isn't hiding away, it's reducing its impact to nothing more than an everyday bug. People still get ill from everyday bugs, they might even die, but the likelihood of it is very, very slim.

Keep in mind that COVID itself, for a lot of people who get it, is no worse than a bad cough and/or fever, then the vast majority of people already have a fair head start.

of course there’s very little evidence that we’ll have an effective track and trace operation by the time we open up; indeed there’s been reports this weekend that they are laying people off

Come on, guys.

we need to open up, and it’s being done in a slow, methodical manner when compared to last time.

We have the vaccine now, plus the warm weather isn’t far away.

We’ve spent the last year protecting the old and vulnerable which was the right thing to do, now let’s shift focus more towards young people and making sure we don’t lose a generation of people. Let’s get people their lives back to at least some semblance whilst we continue to battle this.

yeah, that's an issue

but it doesn't take away from the good news (as in, actual real-world evidence in the UK) about the vaccines, does it?

1/3 of all hospital admissions due to Covid since the Pandemic started actually took place last month.

Lets not rush and put the NHS under extreme strain again.

Thankfully we have the vaccine rollout but lets get infection rates low and as many people vaccinated before opening up.

We want this lockdown to be the last.

I am happy to go slow and gradually over the next few months as long as things are fairly normal by the summer and we don't ever have to go back to this. The thought of another year like this is horrible so I hope it doesn't happen.

The only real issue for me with the roadmap as it stands is the schools. Personally, I don't see what, right now, three weeks of difference makes. Surely, it's better to have them still 'shut' for the 3 weeks between March 8th and the Easter holidays on March 29. For the sake of 15 days in school...

Then, after Easter, we open them up. Or, have it that it's primary kids in school from March 8th, with other schools returning after the Easter break.

Other than that, there's really not much difference to what we have now, even after March 29th.

I've been in an area that's either been in lockdown or Tier 3 now since the end of October. Forgive me if I'm somewhat fed up by it all. But even I see that for the sake of 3 weeks, the schools thing seems a risk.

Especially as that's what caused the rates to skyrocket in late September

The same vax experts who have told this government that you stick wityh a 3 week gap between 1st and 2nd jabs or they run the risk of losing their ability to offer protection.

If you cant see the media/back bench Tory co-ordination of this moment you have to question yourself.

Dave.
Who cares if the release of the info is planned to coincide with today.

The data is wonderful and deserves the attention it will get. Unless you don't believe it and believe the public health and reporting to be lies?

well, that and the uni's going back and then the weather turning all the same time, yeah.

Just don't see why they couldn't hold off or do it more gradually - primary school back for 3 weeks as a tester run, kind of thing.

It should - we’ve all been told repeatedly what a massive success it is, and in large parts that’s true.

The problem is that it is increasingly looking like the government appear to think that this is the fix, rather than one bit of a response, and that it’s this success they should be measured on.

Well... we'll see.

From what we've heard, testing is going to be key if people want to do anything in the coming months/year.

An update on COVID-19 PL protocols.

In the Athletic, so I'll paraphrase...

- Players returning to the UK from any international trip, including CL/EL, must now isolate for up to 10 days, or 5 days if they provide proof of a negative covid test.
- The only exemption is for training and games
- Also applies to new signings and managers
