Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Nobody is really saying finish the lockdown today, theres probably another 8 weeks to go before anything opens.

I think most people are hopeful that the vaccines can significantly reduce deaths to a reasonable level and life can then resume. Time will tell, I personally wouldn't want another couple of years surviving rather than living.
Then most people are daft if they think that's a hope.

It wont do that. It will help. And the spring and summer will see it get ahead of infections. But if the lockdown ends and no sensible and stringent track and trace system is in place worthy of the name, and everywhere opens up again as it did last summer and autumn, we will have a huge surge and variants abounding and mass death on our hands again late autumn and through next winter.

Is that what you or anyone else wants?

What are you talking about?

The whole point of vaccinations is to massively reduce deaths. Look at the information coming out of Israel. Its extremely positive and hopefully it will be similar here.

Its laughable for you to suggest people are daft for hoping that vaccines will work.

It's wham.

Even the most pessimistic of outlooks on the AZ vaccine shows it prevents death and serious illness against the new resistant strains.

If 60%+ of the population are vaccinated with two doses by the autumn there will be nothing like 'mass death'. To suggest otherwise is scaremongering.

That's not what I said. They work, but they wont get us back to where we dont need behavioural changes and the retention of sensible restrictions.

Hospital figures - 536 deaths were announced today, up 195 on yesterday and down 255 on last Tuesday. 509 deaths were in English hospitals, up 196 on yesterday and down 258 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 617

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 1052 deaths were announced today, up 719 on yesterday and down 397 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 833.86

For the 60 day cut off, 1303 deaths were announced today, up 924 on yesterday and down 310 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 964.57

TBF, you also said there'd be no second wave.

I just can't get my head around that point. Apparently people who hope for normality to resume want mass deaths now.

Grow up.

Slowly slowly slowly.

I know there is a modest uptick in infections, but with the recent local outbreaks thats kinda expected, plus the loosening of restrictions. But it feels close to being almost controllable now. Unless we have a collective meltdown.

Think it will likely go to pot in a couple of months when it’s no longer warm enough to spend extended periods of time sat outdoors.

He what’s to turn us into a his very own version of China mate.

That’s what it’s all about really.

All the guff about his faux concern for vulnerable and the elderly is just a smoke screen.

Was effective in Singapore as well

Maybe, and this is just me, but cos that part of the world has been exposed to viruses like this for years and years, perhaps their immune systems are just more used to dealing with them?

Like when Europeans travelled all round the world centuries ago, one thing they all did was wipe out indiginous populations with a common cold.

Its kinda the same thing.
