Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Unfortunately, whether she is right or wrong, she seems to be trying to speak for the whole of the NHS and really is doing it at the wrong time. This smacks of political opportunism. What next, people who caught Covid in hospital should take the NHS to court. There is a pandemic on, it needs sorting, it does not need lawyers involved. There will be plenty of time afterwards to determine blame towards whatever bodies have been involved...but now is not really a good time.....
I get what you are saying, Pete, but I am sure the doctors can see that poor management and emerging troublesome mutations 'might' mean that scientific advice needs to guide the remainder of this battle. We are suffering in many respects because of poor decisions that look like gambling.

Very early on that may have been the case, but Sage and the scientists have been all over the media and the government dare not make a decision not backed by them.....

Still seems to be happening, Pete. This particular issue is really disappointing.

TBF that (can new variants be stopped entering the country) is sort of the wrong question to ask; they always will given our need to import things.

The question that needs solving is “can they be identified and contained quickly enough to prevent spread”; fix that in the positive and we solve this crisis.

You’ve just labelled that doctor who’s saving lives on a daily basis scum. Think about what you’re saying.

Think about what I am saying? or the dots you've lazily (and offensively) joined there?

The scum element was firmly aimed at someone who would try and leverage the whole of the NHS (and the nation's strong empathy towards it) to start a political / legal motion that can absolutely wait.

Again though, and this isn't having a dig, the main priority is stopping people getting seriously ill from any strain - which these vaccines do, even with the SA strain (though to less effect so far?).

If that is achieved, then it buys time for health systems to be able to treat people and it also buys time for vaccine manufacturers to tweak the medicine.

Which is why @ForeverBlue92 's point about stopping the vaccine in some cases just seems counter-productive.

Stop people getting seriously ill - that's the priority.

Anyway, hope you're feeling better after the second dose of Pfizer, mate!

Cheers Pal,

I don't think it changes the vaccine roll out in anyway mate. Its just information for the debate and likely changes our approach to managing the virus.

The SA strain is particularly problematic and relevant as if it become a dominant variant in countries then the level of protection for all dips - that's the risk, already we have seen the UK variant become the dominant variant in a lot of European countries. If the SA variant becomes dominant it obviously raises a risk. Ongoing things like holidays abroad and that might be at risk as countrys will be afraid of seeding this in travel.

would you prefer any complaints to take the form of a decorated bus?

A lot of both would be the ideal. I'm not confident that we'll get either though :(
