dunno if this is the case in your region, but Waitrose are the only stores now down here where queues can be found - there was a huge one outside the Waitrose near Holland Park today

Same here weirdly. Just noticed as I used the car park, cant stand the shop.

It sounds as though the ROI are doing better than the rest of the EU, but the big difference will come in the next few months when the U.K. sends its extra vaccines over to you.....

Second best in class is the EU mate, we were first but France over took us.

Ha yeah that would be appreciated! Strap them, to the dingy and send it off West for my attention mate I’ll look after them, one of the advantages of not giving a flyer about an open border! :D

haha

Pete - what I am calling for is that they get the first and second inoculation in a reasonable timeframe, one that is in line with the guidance issued by the manufacturer (in the Pfizer case, but also in terms of the AZ one which is 4-12 weeks). Getting more people to have a second dose means more people are vaccinated.

As for your NHS comments, feel free to print them onto one of the new Chinese testing kits before you use it.

AZ's best results came 8-12 weeks, not 4-12.

You know I agree with you on Pfizer.

You also know that the UK has taken the calculated risk to get more people more protection sooner. There's definitely logic there.

Hopefully in 6 weeks' time we'll have enough vaccines available to be able to reduce the gap down to 3 weeks for Pfizer, or it'll all be AZ, so there's no actual reason for concern on the spacing as the best results come from longer spacing.

But the more that get the first, the more can get the second.

And the leap from zero protection to 60% from #1 is more than the leap from 60% to 85% from #2.

Not sure why you seem upset about nearly 9 million ready for the second one.

The gnats piss is ok for the under 65s.

“Mr Martin also criticised French president Emmanuel Macron for suggesting - contrary to all available evidence - that the AZ jab did not work for those aged over 65.

''I don't think politicians should pronounce on the efficacy or otherwise of vaccines,' the Irish leader said. “

Never mind what both the MHRA and the EMA say, I mean what do they know......

It was authorised on the basis of 4-12, though:

"There's definitely logic there" is, I think, not something that should ever be said when we are talking about a policy of this importance. It isn't something that other countries are doing, for example (we are #3 worldwide in terms of first dose, and yet #9 in terms of the second):

I hope it works, but again the importance of this is so immense that the argument for doing something you know will work instead is absolutely clear.

Of course the AZ vaccine works. It works fine for younger age groups. And it also, apparently after 2 jabs, produces spike specific antibodies. The question remains about how much protection it offers.

Denmark are. Germany very seriously considered it.

I'm more inclined, given the situation we're in, to just get as many people as much protection as possible.

I really don't see the issue with AZ. Authorised on 4-12 still allows scope for 12 week spacing. The country is in lockdown and rates are going down and it looks like deaths might start to follow. So we'll have to stay in lockdown while the roll out continues but we're getting people protection.

I agree on Pfizer that we should just stay at 3 weeks or go 6 weeks like Denmark have.

... because we could have 3 million people properly vaccinated by now (if the share of 1st / 2nd doses was the same as the Israelis) - this would still mean tens / hundreds of thousands of people would be getting their first dose every day, but we'd have many more of the most vulnerable better protected. We'd also (and this is a point that cannot be overstated) actually be using the Pfizer vaccine in the way they've repeatedly told us it should be used.
