We went to the supermarket earlier. It was just our weekly food shop so didn't even look at the toiletries section. The following were cleaned out, and I mean totally bare.

Fresh meat. Not a chicken leg, packet of mince or a £6.35 pork fillet

Root vegetables. Not a carrot, potato or onion in sight.

Tinned veg. Except for a few tins of sweet corn and beans and sausage. Oh, I got the last small tin of garden peas.

Pasta. Of every variety, together with most of the jars of pasta sauce. The rice section had taken a heavy battering too.

Fresh Eggs. Every size and colour.

Sliced bread. Every brand and size. Although there was plenty of the fresh baked stuff from the bakery which presumably was cooked acfter the hoards had been.

The freezers were mostly empty too. No chips or frozen meals. And the milk we normally buy with a longer shelf life had been wiped out too.

It was a bit like going shopping at 9pm on Christmas eve.

As of yesterday. We have to be 10m away from other shoppers.A one in one out basis.Local mini markets are different. The village however,is like a ghost town after 6pm. No young kids on mopeds riding up and down(nobody at all actually)It seems to me they are taking it seriously over here.

It seems so yes.

I suppose the point is that, given how people have behaved so far, what are they going to do when it really hits the fan.

I think that's the concern , people have this fanciful or wistful “keep calm and ... “ and stiff up a lip idea about this country when in reality we’ve scratched the surface and a lot of people have behaved disgustingly . Obviously there has been some superb conduct and some great community spirit but a lot of people have already given in to their basest urges and as you say we’re not even really week one yet .

@Bungle hasn't posted for some time.

The 2020 Australian Football League (AFL) season is to begin as planned despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Richmond play Carlton behind closed doors at Melbourne's MCG on Thursday.

The decision was taken following meetings with club chief executives, Australia's chief medical officer and government representatives.

"We don't know how many games we will get into this 153-game journey before we have to pause," said AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.
