I think the two go hand-in-hand in this instanceI agree with that, lots of lives could have been sparred. Whether the answer was more draconian measures is what I disagree with. It was quicker action needed, not stricter.

We have had to replace our normal staff on the front door advising customers to wear masks with additional security guards now as the grief was too much. How close have people come to smacking selfish people ie; Those who have no concept of social distancing and/or those who just stroll into places without a mask on? It should be made legal to chin these selfish arrogant scum-bags. In the shop by ours one bounced in, lady behind the counter "Sorry sir you'll have to put your mask on" "I'm only getting a (I cant remember what he said)" "Sorry you need a mask" "Who are you to tell me what to f*cking do its not against the law you f*cking sheep you're all f*cking sheep" then bounced out still mouthing off to himself. Wasn't even midday.
I hate this lockdown wit a passion, I miss everyday normal things, I woke up in a foul mood about it this morning gutted I couldn't go and lash a bet on, have a couple of pints and just see and talk to other people but I fully understand why we have to and I agree with it. These lot are happy to spread this virus further yet without the slightest hint of irony are the first to kick off when further restrictions are put in place. I've fallen out with a few friends over this.
With all respect, that is an article written by an individual who can hardly be described as impartial given that the article is headed up "led by donkeys" lolWith all respect, this link highlights just how badly the gov acted during the first few months of this pandemic
cock-up after cock-up
they are to blame, NOT the people

A timeline of failure.
Through arrogance and incompetence, thousands have needlessly died.timeline-of-failure.com
PLook back at this government's own strategy at the start of this pandemic: they used graphs to explain that the best way of handling the virus was to kill off surges by having plenty of lockdowns. They were advised that by SAGE but they didn't stick to it. Once the economic cost was known to them they threw that plan out of the window and encouraged practically a normal time from June through to late November / early December.
That was a choice to discard a battle plan. They chose it. They are respinsoible for the deadly consequences.
oh, I’m not saying it is 100% factual, but 80% of it is correct and highlights the missed opportunities and general incompetenceWith all respect, that is an article written by an individual who can hardly be described as impartial given that the article is headed up "led by donkeys" lol
I replied to your post saying that the government ignored scientific advice for 12 months because it was factually incorrect. They followed advice for the first 6 months. The SAGE minutes are all there in black and white. Read it or don't read it, I don't care. I read the first few points on the article you posted and none of it was backed up by SAGE's own minutes. Some of it is just made up bollox mate. I grant you it does highlight a lot of mistakes that were made, but these were made following advice from SAGE and PHE.
As I say, I'm not giving the government a free hand here. I don't think they could have managed the whole affair much worse.
It's the selfishness of people that fills me with rage mate. Karens the lot of them.We have had to replace our normal staff on the front door advising customers to wear masks with additional security guards now as the grief was too much.

I'm not arguing with that mate. I was merely picking you up on the point that they ignored scientific advice over the first 6 months which simply isn't true.P

Blood on their hands, lots of it
That's not exactly conclusive for a scientist, is it?
I think the two go hand-in-hand in this instance
Just got a message that a guy I play football with, a man mountain from Hobart,Taz, has been admitted to hospital with CV.Worrying as he is so fit and healthy.
Merely from what I've seen, there seems to be a larger percentage of people who are getting the virus and suffering from more severe symptoms.
I'm not talking about hospitalisation but rather the symptoms that the majority of people get: less colds and more people feeling like boiled faeces.
I am absolutely not going to say young, healthy people can't get this or get this badly.
But, nobody goes through their life without getting ill. And young, healthy people can handle it in that - yes, they may feel absolutely awful (and it may last for a while) - but they are very unlikely to end up in hospital.
One of my mates had it in December and he still can't run properly. He's been training to do an iron man and is super fit, but he struggles to go more than a few miles now. He's getting better bit by bit but it's so random how it affects people.
All this being said, our best protection is our body's immune system. It's better than any vaccine, which is why panic about a vaccine not giving 100% protection is just utter drivel. It is there to give the immune system a boost. People who are 'vulnerable' (old, underlying conditions etc) need that boost more than people who have no underlying concerns. I just think the whole panic over vaccines and new strains is completely misplaced and the CMOs both said as much the other day - there is no evidence that they won't work at all.
Know that wasn't your general point so I'm not aiming it as a response to your post, just in general!![]()
Spoke to my eldest brother earlier who is 73. He and his missus are getting their jabs on Monday and are booked in for April for the follow up. If they can keep the daily figure around £359k they should meet their school half term target.Vaccinations...478K first dose jabs given yesterday, plus 1.8K second jabs. Totals now 5,861K first jab plus 468K second jabs. Probably see a downturn at the W/E but going well....
People wont believe this.My missus has been drafted on to the covid wards at whiston hospital to help due to staff shortages (covid related). The wards are all full with covid patients and her ward only has 2 people over 60. The youngest patient in there is 26.
It is undoubtably affecting younger people more this time and lots do require hospitalisation.
