It's spread by people entering care homes to work because they fear they cant survive on 20% of their earning when off, so they take chances on going in when unwell. Once in a care home it can decimate. Itls spread by a large amount of the workforce still at work, which is because the definition of key worker has been allowed to be stretched.

No need for confusion. None.

Thats not strictly true Dave.

My sister works in a care home and gets tested weekly. She has been covid positive twice and isolated both times. Once the isolation is over she has to go back because they actually do need people to work not just for wages but to actually look after the people who rely on them.

So it isn't all about folk going in sick for fear of losing money, a lot of people are abiding by the rules but this virus is rife and spreads like wildfire.

And that's 23% of deaths

Where are the other 77% coming from?

Where d'you think they come from? They come from people at work transmitting it; they come from people who got this virus through shoppin and hospitality before the (partial) lockdown was declared - and those people in turn passed it onto others, who then passed it onto others etc etc. extending into this period.

Hang on, so should care home staff be going in to look after the people there or not?

Sadly, not all tests are accurate. It doesn't take much for the virus to wreak its havoc from there.

Most people are not in care homes though. I mean its like your obsession with pubs and that back in the day. Some most likely caught it going to one, but not the numbers we have seen since Christmas.

I literally dont understand how so many have copped it. As in, I dont get how so many have put themselves in a situation where they may.

Of course all tests aren't accurate. But every week, whether its right or wrong they get tested. If its positive they isolate. If its negative they continue working.

You can't run a care home on the basis of your negative test "might" be wrong so you must stay at home. The workers are there to care for the residents, its non negotiable when it comes to closing it down so its inevitable that the odd one will slip through the net and spread because its rife.

Lots of residents in care homes get online deliveries as well.

Not just what they order, but stuff relatives send them as well. Was always a highlight of their day when you buzzed their number and said "delivery".

Worth a read - especially in light of the Israeli claims.

It’s an excellent article mate, thanks for posting, it’s why I’ve been saying the UK is taking a big chance on the 12 week roll out apart from the AZ vaccine - as that is recommended for maximum efficacy.

Yes, they should if well. But sometines people are not heeding the signs and wont want to believe they are infected. And the policy of sending infected hospital patients back into care homes to relieve hospitals is back with us again, a re-run of the first wave.

Add the failure to get vaccines to care home residents and staff and it's a recipe for a disaster. 23% of all Covid19 deaths on the second wave are down to care home fatalities.

All that is down to government. ALL OF IT.

The spread probably comes from jobs like mine. I am a key worker (engineer who travels around the country and into wales/Scotland on occasion), and often you find these pharma plants and medical labs are as bad as anywhere for social distancing, people milling around chatting in groups etc. Also, some jobs mean you cannot physically social distance (I.e. lifting heavy gear etc etc). We dont get tested, although I have done some myself just for piece of mind. If most people are asymptomatic though I can see how it will spread like wildfire. The thing is my company doesn’t care, and most place I visit don’t care. They just want their products out the door.

Aye Ray they've had it tough that's for sure being locked away from loved ones friends and family. Like you said, just a little delivery can make their day as well.

Just waiting for my sisters shift to finish to see how she's getting on. 10 days in isolation and her boss thought it was a great idea to give her 3 x12 hour shifts as a welcome back.

The opportunity of vaccine produced at warp speed - a leap for humanity - thrown down the toilet by clueless politicians trying to cope with the mess they created.

Well read to the posts on this thread and you should have no problem.

Read that one by @wainy above for instance, and many more like them.

Just to simply keep on stating "I dont get how it happens" is very strange. It's as though you've given up the will to understand.

Tests wont pick up on some, but carers will feel unwell. At that point the will to self isolate to be on the safe side comes up against material realities like getting their full wage. That will be one of the routes into the homnes for this virus. Others exist...as I said above: hospitals breaking under pressure are discharging care home residents again.
