Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

There will be thousands of parties of 30 different households mixing across the UK tomorrow. Each of these parties will last for 6+ hours and there will be no masks and very little social distancing.

After the party all 30+ attendees will be going to back to their own households.

Its an absolute disgrace that the government is allowing the term to start.

There's also this:

My kids won't be going to school tomorrow. As far as we're concerned teir 4 means schools are closed. Both my wife and I have medical conditions that mean we should avoid catching this thing and the kids are the only route for it to get into our family. We've worked too damn hard and given up too much to risk catching it now for some populist lead government to screw it up for us.
Johnson will be still of the mind (and he'll be advised to go this way) that every crisis presents an opportunity: in this case to recast society completely. There'll be social engineering being dreamt up for the post-Covid19 era and it'll be based around the demolition of all notions of collective response and communitarian values. A generational cleavage wll be encouraged. Theories on Social Darwinism will be getting the dust brushed off them.

The election of the Tories in 2010 and Brexit have prepared a path toward semi-barbarism in this country.

Unbelievable there was even a debate that younger people could or could not transmit. Similar with herd immunity and the mask wearing. Those who pursue wealth over health brought kicking and screaming into reality, likely when its them and theirs are staring this Virus in the face!
The decision is made now not to supress the virus but to exploit it.

We are in very dark times. And to top it all off the leader of the Opposition is a member of the elite: a former DPP with no intention of meaningfully criticising the disaster for fear of falling foul of the elite he belongs to.

It serves no purpose any Labour leader going up against a Tory Pm at the best of times, let alone a worsening national emergency. Any Labour leader would be torn to shreds and blamed for undermining the response, we should all know that. Manifesto and deliver a clear message near election. Let people choice of 2019 play out, its not on my conscience.

Aren't France seeing cases around the same as us and they're yet to start vaccinating.

It's not defending this government but at this stage every country in the west is doing exactly the same thing.

And, as well as Aus and NZ have dealt with it, they'll be exactly the same when it comes round to getting people vaccinated too. Only way to beat this.

Track, test and trace isn't sustainable long term
Of course every country is vaccinating. They should be. But vaccination shouldn't be your only option for recovery and supression. We currently have no other option for a return to normality other than vaccination (at break neck pace) as a result of how poorly the pandemic has been centrally managed.

Most countries similar to UK in size and supposed economic wealth have less deaths, so some are doing it better than the UK it seems.

I'm not saying pubs are the cause I simply said stop blaming solely the government and start also blaming your fellow man who is actually out there spreading it.
The Government has a role in delivering a clear message and its been poor, no-one can say their messaging has been clear or followed coherent policy.

They have been all over the place, from eating out to spreading it about, from world beating apps to track and trace, over promising on vaccines, 5 days off at Christmas which had to be revised to 1 day and generally overpromising and stating from the onset.

Countries are led and reflect their leaders in general. Clear majority are having a spaffing time!

Unfortunately a lot of people don’t give a crap and will do whatever their government allows them to do. That’s the reality.
Plus if the pub is allowed to stay open, and IS open, what is the point of asking folks not to go there? pub's not receiving any benefits as it is technically running, plus spending electricity and whatnot (all the salaries of employees etc) it will do nothing other than bankrupting them.

We need them shut by the lawmakers if it's not safe.

We’ve got to do both, and do both properly.

The vaccine, provided its administered correctly, will start to give some protection to society but it’s only a relatively temporary measure to deal with this virus. Only a comprehensive public health protection system can provide long term protection, not only against this but also against what’s coming along next, seasonal flu outbreaks etc etc.

Hang on, all along people were saying that the vaccine is the only way out of this long term?

We deal with the flu using a jab? Every year.

Really don't think we need to be track and tracing for people catching the flu... it's flu, we live with it and get on with it. Same as loads of other risks. We manage it relatively well. We do need the healthcare systems to be funded properly/managed properly so that they're not overwhelmed?

I agree we need to make sure we have a method in place that if the next time an epidemic/pandemic whatever comes along, we have a better way of dealing with it.

I agree with the principle of your point (and also @Nymzee too, as it does come down to personal responsibility)

But that bit in bold... what the hell are you on about?
